No gifts... how to ask?

Mari, on January 1, 2018 at 2:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
Hello!
We don’t want gifts. We want people not to stress, we want them to join us and enjoy our moment.
How can we tell them? We were thinking to include a note in the wedding invitation...?
Wondering if someone has the same request, and how you are asking your guesses.
It’s so much easier for birthdays, we tell them come, join us, no gifts, bring your appetite... but since we are sending wedding invitations no sure how to deliver the message.
any ideas are welcome. Thanks!!!

It is not proper etiquette to mention gifts in any way on an invitation. Even writing "No gifts please" or the hokey "Your presence is the only present..." is not acceptable on an invitation. Stating no gifts implies that without your permission, your guests should have thought of gifts.

You can mention it on your website. Graciously accept and send thank you notes to those who ignore your wishes.

You don’t include anything in the invites about gifts. If people ask, you can let them know you don’t need anything.

Agree this is information for a website not the invitation. And no matter what you will get gifts even if you don't want them.

You could also set up a charity for people to donate to for those who may feel compelled to mark this occasion with a present

    Thank you for the info.
Never thought this is not proper etiquette.

    Thank you.
I have no website, need to think I guess on getting one. I like the idea of setting up for a charity.

Wedding wires website are really easy to set up. Most organizations/foundations have some way for people to donate money through a website link of some sort. We are going to donate money to our local food bank because my fiance is a chef and we are big Foodies and everyone should be able to have a good meal

I would be careful about asking for donations. Some charities can rub people the wrong way.

I'm not registered and when people ask me what I want, I just tell them we're good and don't need any gifts but thank them for the thought.

Yep, just don't mention it. I've had someone RSVP no and asked if they could send a gift to the address on the envelope. I just told them that we didn't need anything and thanked them for the offer.

I put on our registry section of our wedding wire website that we are not accepting gifts, but there will be a place to leave cards at the reception
