No flower petals allowed

Cecilia, on September 18, 2017 at 10:10 PM Posted in Planning 1 19

Has anyone had an experiences where the venue did not allow the flower girls to throw flower petals down the aisle? If so what did you do instead?

Lots of venues don't allow anything to be tossed anymore.

Our FGs carried mini versions of the bridesmaid bouquets and had flower crowns

I'm too OCD and it always bugs me that the petals are in piles or groups on the floor rather than evenly spread or whatever. Plus I wouldn't want the petals to get stuck in my petticoats. My flower girl looks like a mini me with a bouquet.

My church does not allow it.

Instead the flower girl had a basket of loose flowers and handed them to people in the pews.

Both churches I looked at had rules like this UNLESS you used silk flowers. Another chapel will let you use real ones only if you rent an aisle runner and purchase the extra 2 hours to install it?

ETA: so my flower girl is using silk petals.

My venue didn't have a rule against them but I went with silk just because they were cheaper.

I've seen a flower girl blow bubbles at a beach wedding, but I dunno if that would work for you haha

PPs have had great ideas. You could have her carry a sign that says "here comes the bride" instead of tossing things? Pinterest has tons of ideas for alternatives to flower petals.

My FGs aren't allowed to throw petals, so instead they have muffs and we're pinning a corsage on those.

Yes, this is pretty common, petals stain. I'd ask the venue what they do allow. Bubbles, or silk or paper petals may be allowed if you agree that someone will stay behind to clean up or you pay a cleaning fee. Otherwise the flower girls can carry small bouquets or baskets or pomanders or a big single flower, or a sign, or they can just walk in with pretty flower crowns on.

My venue allows real flower petals for an outside wedding and fake petals only for an inside wedding!

Same, were not allowed petals, confetti or bubbles; my flower girl carrying a pomander (flower ball), cute for her age, turning 3. If older little bouquet?

Interesting. My venue will only allow petals if they are real flower petals. - it's outdoors so I assume this is because they will naturally deteriorate.
