No favors for wedding? Help!

Margarita, on October 22, 2017 at 5:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 33

So my wedding is 12/22, 2 months away, yikes!! Super excited. I have a question for you ladies, though: I can't decide what I should do for wedding favors. Honestly, I hate wedding favors, they are usually some cheap crap that I toss out at the nearest garbage dispenser. I considered an edible favor, but we are having tons of food, desserts, etc. so more food seems excessive. We have 140 people invited, so favors can't be too expensive. We already busted our budget on a gorgeous wedding, with an orchestra, singers, and all details done to the max. Please help. Do we even need a favor?!

Favors are optional so just don't do them. Most of them end up in the trash anyways

    They're unnecessary

I agree they're not needed. I'm fairly certain they didn't have them at the last wedding I was at and I still had a great time.

If you really want to do something, I was looking into personalized M&Ms. people will like them because they're edible. You can get your wedding colors and dates on them. They were super cheap

Don't feel pressured to do them. As everyone says, most people don't bother taking theirs. I am personally molding chocolates for my wedding, and it is low cost. Under $20 for the mold, and Sam's Club has good Ghiradelli melting chocolate priced very affordably. For my molds, I've calculated it out at about 15 cents per chocolate. I realize you will already have tons of desserts, but the guests can't take that home with them to eat the next day.

So, don't feel pressured to give favors, but if you do so, edible is the way to go. They are most likely to be taken, and can be done very inexpensively.

Favors aren't necessary but what about boxes to take home the extra dessert?

Not doing it. We are hosting our guests with passed and stationed appetizers, five-course fabulous dinner, sweet buffet and a pierogi station late night. Open bar as well. I think no one will complain if they leave without a cheap favor.

    Forget the favors.

Also, when I think edible favors, I don't think homemade. Every time I see someone post about canning salsa, apple butter etc and being excited about it beause they have never done it before, I think about botulism.

We're doing a Photobooth as wedding favor. It's fun and they get to take as many as they want. It's something they will want to keep!

I am doing the same thing as Morgan, photobooth and skipping the favor. Our vendor gives two copies of the printed photos. One is going to put in a scrapbook that guests can sign, the other goes to the guest.

We're also doing a photo-booth as favors for the guest. Everyone can get a copy with our wedding hashtag on it.

Nope. We spent the money on late night pizza instead. Everyone loved it.

Skip the favors. You said yourself you find them useless as a guest so don't spend the money or energy on them if you're having to force it/stress about it.

Second the skip. But if you must have them, I've seen a lot of weddings where they just set out a bowl of nice chocolates, candies, cookies or something similar on the table next to the door where people exit with a "please take a little something on us" sort of sign. Inexpensive, low time investment (ie big bowl) due to no individual packaging, and can get in bulk at Sam's or Costco.

FH and I did an add-on thru our venue, an ice cream bar, instead of favors
