No father for father daughter dance

Emily, on May 15, 2016 at 5:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Okay, so my dad is a dead beat dad... Whatever. Im planning my wedding. I don't know what to do for the "father daughter dance" I was going to ask my soon to be husbands dad to dance with me but just recently found out that he won't even dance with his wife at our wedding. So I really don't want to be told no... That would hurt worse than not even having a dance. I don't have a brother. I don't have any uncle I would feel comfortable dancing with. My mom.... Is that weird to dance with my mom for it? I don't know how I feel about that. Suggestions? Comments? Opinions? Please.

It's not weird to dance with your mom. I was considering a mother daughter dance also. Check out Mama's song by Carrie Underwood Smiley smile

I think who ever filed the role in your life. Of it was your mom then dance proudly with her.

You don't have to have the dance. If there's no one that you'd want to dance with.

My "father" is in jail and also a deadbeat. I don't look at him as my dad. My dad (step-dad) passed away in 2010. I'm doing a dance with all of the important men in my life. They'll all take turns dancing with me to the song my dad always said reminded him of me. Uncle, grandpa, FFIL. Whoever filled the parental role in your life....or you could just do without.

Dance with your mom. My parents died before my wedding, so I just omitted any bride-parent type dance.

Dance with your mom or you don't have to have it at all if you don't want to

I had a friend that her dad passed when she was little so her mom basically raised her on her own so she just danced with her mom during that part. It was not weird at all!

Mother daughter dance is not weird at all!! My dad has been out of the picture all my life and just recently reconnected in the last two years. I'm having my grandpa walk me down the aisle. We are doing a father daughter dance but I am planning one with my mom as well because she's been my person. I believe who ever your role person is should be the one that gets the honors, doesn't need to be a father.

My father is not in my life also so I decided to have a mother-daughter dance. I know it will make her happy but also she's been there through everything's so it was a no brainer for me.

My mom is walking me down the aisle and doing the "mother-daughter" dance with me. We live in 2016, it's not weird at all. That and I assume most of your guests are family/ friends that already know about your situation. For me it would be weird (for my self and guests) to see a father daughter dance.

Dance with your mom, my dad passed away along with my oldest brother. I'm omitting that part out of the wedding because my FH isn't doing the mother son dance.

I have been to a wedding where there was very rocky father daughter relationship and bride danced with mother. It was beautiful. I believe they danced to mama's song by Carrie Underwood. Everyone was in tears.
