No dress "wow" factor?

Jackie, on May 28, 2022 at 10:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I've tried on dozens of different wedding dresses from multiple different stores and I even bought three different ones but the problem? I don't love any of them! I never felt that "wow" moment in any dress and I ended up with whatever I could just afford, only to not like it as soon as I got them home, but now I'm stuck with 3 dresses (they are final sale, so I can't return them and I've been trying to resell them online to no avail). I really don't have the budget to buy yet another dress but I either don't fit or feel beautiful in them. Should I just suck it up and wear what fits? I'm really not sure what to do as I don't have the money for extensive alterations and I dont have more money for a 4th dress...

Posting photos may help. Petticoats, veil, jewelry are easy ways to add oomph

I had a similar issue. So, I bought lace fabric to put as an overlay for the skirt. It isn’t my dream dress, but it adds a personal touch I’m happy with. You may also look at a belt/sash at the waist.

I agree that posting photos of your dresses could help us make suggestions on how to modify or accessorize to create a wow factor

Many seamstresses can help you add/subtract elements of the dress -- sleeves, petticoats, embellishments, etc. -- during alterations. You could also choose a different element of your look to bring the wow factor. One of my favorite combos is a minimalist dress with a dramatic veil. Or, go all out with your bouquet!

These are the two dresses that currently fit (the first one I got no longer does). The top is a Vera Wang and the bottom is a Namoda x J.Crew. I wanted that old Hollywood glamor vibe.

The second dress really is quite stunning, on you! You have to remember the dress is only part of the whole picture, there’s still shoes, accessories, hair, etc. I think when you had all the pieces, that glam Hollywood hairdo, fabulous earrings and shoes and the quintessential Hollywood red lip, you will look and feel beautiful. I loved my dress but I had more fun picking out the shoes and accessories and deciding on hairstyles. Best of luck!

This also happened to me! I was lucky enough to be able to return my unwanted gowns, but I purchased three (and tried on sooo many more!), but I never had that “bridal moment.” It was a bit of a letdown because I love Say Yes to the Dress and I’ve always dreamed about finding the perfect dress, and I still wasn’t 100% happy with the dress I ultimately ended up with. However, I realized after a few months that I was putting so much pressure on the process that I probably wasn’t even capable of having a “bridal moment.” I realized that ALL the dresses I’d tried were lovely, and that it didn’t really matter if I never found the “perfect” dress, because marrying the love of my life in whichever one I chose is what would make the dress truly special. And… I was right! I felt so beautiful on my wedding day, and in my photos I don’t even see any of the things that were causing me to hesitate in the first place. This is a tough situation to be in, but you’re not alone and this will not ruin your wedding or make you feel less special on your day!

Thank you everyone!! I will definitely try adding my own belt/sash or some other pieces to make it more personal! Perhaps trying different accessories will help make the dresses seem more "me". Those are great ideas, thank you everyone!

Girl, with your figure you are going to look incredible in any dress you choose!
I think if you embrace the old Hollywood glam hair & makeup and maybe one “wow” accessory (a statement necklace or earrings? Or maybe a unique veil?) the dress will look perfect!

The first one definitely gives off Marilyn Monroe vibes! I think with a birdcage veil, some statement jewelry, and a red lip you'd nail the Old Hollywood look! Personally, I think adding my veil was what made me feel more "bridal" in my dress, and when I tried it on with my jewelry it sold me on the look. It was hard to really feel like a bride when I was wearing my hair and makeup like I do every day. I felt like I just looked like "me wearing a white dress" vs like a bride until everything came together.
