No dress - 6 months to go

Traci, on May 17, 2017 at 6:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

Long story short, my wedding is in about 5 and a half months and I still don't have my dress nor have I tried any on yet. I plan to go within the next 2 weeks and I'm very stressed about not having this done yet. I have some people really scaring me, saying this needs to be done immediately, while others are assuring me that while I need to get on top of it, I have plenty of time. I plan on buying something from Davids Bridal more than likely and I'm unsure of the process. Do I buy my dress and take it home with me? Leave it for alterations? Bring it back for alterations? Or do I have to wait for a new dress to be shipped out? I'm not planning on anything extravagant, something in the ballpark of $500-900 if this helps. I am clueless. Please help!

More than likely you'll need alterations. My dress took 5.5 months to come in. So, it totally depends on what dress you pick. Designer. Store. If you go to a Davids bridal I think you'll be fine. I didn't go there so I can't speak for their dresses or customer service. I've read people saying don't go there for alterations. So go asap. Find your dress. Order. & wait

Usually the dresses at David's bridal are only samples. They will order the dress in your size and then once they get it in you will go in for your first alterations. They may have something there that you can just buy off the rack but most likely it will need to be altered for you.

I was lucky and went to a boutique who had the dress I wanted in my size and I didn't need alterations. I took it home that day. The whole process took 30 minutes.

I bought my dress off the rack at DB. I took it home that day and made an appointment for alterations later on. I brought it back on the alterations appointment.

They will tell you all about it.

I got mine by BHLDN, I went to the store- got fitted and it took my dress ~1month wait. I spend $750 on the dress and $200 on the sash. So it's doable! They dont do alterations there, so i needed to find a seamtress. Alterations time line- maybe 1month? the only issue w mine was the length, so i guess it depends on how much need to altered

You may have to buy your dress off the rack. If you do make sure you check it thourghly for rips, marks, stains, etc. You could find the dress on the rack and then check the DB website to see if they have the same dress available for immediate shipping. I did this and got a new dress in about 5 days. Then make an appointment for alterations. Good luck

My dress from David's bridal came within a few weeks. However, I had a bad experience with my consultant who didn't even measure me and convinced me I was a size larger than I am and now I'm having to get the dress taken in to size down a size. Also FYI if you order David's Bridal online the dresses are returnable, if you order at the store they are not.

My sister got hers at davids bridal and was able to take it with her that day- she had alterations done back where she lived at the time- the selection available off the rack is limited - but there are dresses- if your a plus size it could be a bit more difficult-

My dress is taking 8 months to come in, little frustrated with that- it wasn't supposed to take so long- there was some issue with the original order... there are sometimes issues out of our control (and the shop) so keep that in mind...

I bought my dress from db. It arrived in 3 weeks. My engagement was only 7 months long so I went dress shopping at the 6 month mark and had no problems.

I ordered my dress from DB and I got it in 3 weeks (they said 8) and they had a huge off-the-rack section of 100+ dresses. I would get on it sooner than later though. Some special-order dresses may take up to 16 weeks.

Alfred Angelo also has dresses that can come in quickly. I would be up front as to when you wedding is before you try a dress on anywhere because some dresses won't come on with enough time, but plenty will.

I ordered mine from DB and it took a month to come in. I think you should go this weekend and start looking just to get ideas from other places.

I bought my dress from DB and I was estimated a month for my dress to come in and it was in about 2 weeks after I ordered it. I could have taken home the sample one that night, but it would have needed alterations. Luckily the one I ordered, doesn't need any alterations at all, definitely was lucky there Smiley smile good luck shopping!

Thank you all for your help! I am going to check out the off the rack DB section (though this may not be right for me as I am probably a size 16 or 18 wedding dress. I also found 2 local bridal salons where I live that offer many off the rack options in extensive sizes. Thanks so much!

Honestly I went to Davids bridal.. and it took two months to come in. You should be ok.. but you'll need to make an Appt for your dresss fitting and alterations.

I bought my dress in January from a local bridal shop, and it won't be in until June. And then I need alterations. The consultant at the shop said I was cutting it real close, and that was 9 months out... but I guess it depends where you get your dress from, and the designer. My suggestion would be to buy a dress off the rack that doesn't need to be shipped to the store. However, I assume this will limit your choices.

Don't stress! I'm having a 7 month engagement and getting a dress can be done! At your appointment at a bridal store, tell them when the wedding is and don't let them show you any dresses that won't work in your timeframe. Make an appointment as soon as you can but don't stress about it! Enjoy it!
