No Dessert?

Would it be weird to not have a dessert offered at our wedding? We will be having an open bar, passed hors d'oeuvres, soup course, salad course, and main. Our venue requires we get our cake through them at $7.50 per serving or charge a $300 fee for bringing in outside dessert. We are getting married...

Would it be weird to not have a dessert offered at our wedding? We will be having an open bar, passed hors d'oeuvres, soup course, salad course, and main. Our venue requires we get our cake through them at $7.50 per serving or charge a $300 fee for bringing in outside dessert. We are getting married in the mountains so the delivery fee would be anywhere from $100-230. $**** for a cake (we will have at least 160 people/possibly 200) just seems outrageous to me. Neither my FH or I are big dessert people, but will others not be happy?

I say that yes you need to have dessert. My cousins wedding was last year and didnt have a cake and ppl were talking about it for ever they still bring it up everyone was looking forward to having some type of dessert cake, cupcakes, etc. But my venue includes a cake and we can upgrade it to whatever size we want. Also they do dessert tables as well I personally would talk to ur venue and see if u can negotiate with them. How far away is your wedding? Can u look for a different venue?

My venue charges 4 something for cake but no charge to provide your own ( it just had to be a licensed caterer). We opted for a dessert table with TONS of options for 2 something a person. If you don't want dessert... You don't have to have it. It your day and the decision of you and your fiance.

I don’t always eat dessert but I expect for it to be offered. Ice cream or another dessert works too!

I would check If other desserts count for the fee as well. You could do a super cute candy bar, we are actually doing custom donuts for our guests Smiley smile

I would have some type of dessert. It doesn’t have to be a wedding cake. If anybody is disappointed, they can serve what they want at their wedding and you can serve what you want at yours.

We are having our wedding in the afternoon so we are serving all appetizers and no dessert, not even a cake. After speaking to many brides, ie. his daughter and daughter-in law, they felt they wasted money on their desserts and cakes because no one ate them at their very lavish weddings. So we decided no.

It seems alittle off to have no dessert. Usually people save room for it. If not a cake, how about other options? Dessert bar, doughnut are a big trend, seems anything is better than nothing IMO

Can you give desserts, in take away containers, sort of as favors but who cares if you guests eat it after dinner? I was at a bridal shower where they gave cupcakes in Chinese containers to everyone as they were leaving, the cupcakes had the two brides initials in chocolate on them.

PS. your venue is ridiculous with this policy.

I personally don't like cake however my FH choose the desserts as far as having a candy table with variety of desserts to offer to people. Especially for those who do love desserts. I just did it as a courtesy to others. It's expected from people especially a wedding to be some type of dessert served. But at the end of the day it's your wedding and you should choose what is the best choice for you big day.

It's your wedding! Your feeding them a fantastic meal do you really think they will have room for dessert? Get around it with lovely little cake pops at each setting or nothing at all.
