Hi y'all!

So FH and I are having a small destination wedding next year in Hawaii - like 40 guests max. Neither of us are dance-y people, so we were thinking it might be fun to have a traditional luau as our reception entertainment. I love this idea but am afraid people will think it's boring - and I definitely don't want people to come all that way and be disappointed!

So what would your opinion be if you went to a destination wedding with no dancing but some kind of alternate entertainment? Or am I thinking too much into it? Thanks for any advice!

I've been to a wedding that didn't have any dancing and I didn't think it was weird at all! The luau sounds like a great idea for reasons mentioned above.

I like the luau idea as well. It's very fitting for Hawaii and if the dancers pull your guests in to participate, even better! Good luck!

That sounds fitting considering your setting. I say go for it!

Every time I've seen them, people look like they've having a great time. It's one thing to try a create a luau themed wedding on the mainland, but it's quite another to have access to the real deal in the real place. I'd actually be pretty psyched on a Hawaiian luau wedding. I'm thinking of the drumming, the performances, the torches, the fantastic fruity drinks, the fresh fruit, the excellent food...sounds great. As long as you incorporate some of the traditional wedding elements, I think your guests will rave about it. I would.

I love dancing and for me that's the best part of wedding. I wasnt even interested in the food. My DF chose it cause for me it's not a big deal.

A luau sounds fun, but I love Hawaii and all of that.

I personally would love to see a traditional luau! As a PP mentioned, it's different from a luau themed party in the other states. Personally I think that'd be tons of fun and I'm kinda jealous!

For us, we are trying to have dancing (30 person guest list) but only for a little while. The party vibe is totally different with a smaller (plus older) guest list, but for those of our guests that do want like an hour of dancing we'll have that. Our DJ is experienced in smaller weddings.

We are not having a dance party either. We don't dance-his parents requested a dance party but we decided to go against it. Our reception is at a farm-to-table restaurant, with an extended cocktail hour.
