No dancing- Alternatives?

Liz, on August 16, 2019 at 12:37 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
We are having a small wedding of about 60 guests. My fiancé and I cringe at the thought of dancing and don't really want it at our wedding does anyone have any suggestions of alternative things to have for fun/ entertainment?

You could bring in yard games like ladder ball, Jenga, and cornhole boards. Any simple game would do. I would have some kind of music playing in the background, just to give ambiance.

Games & trivia (with prizes), karaoke, interactive food stations.

Some games would be nice! But are you still having music even though you are not doing any dancing?

I am NOT a dancer, we are doing our first dance, and I'll dance with my parents, and probably a little with him and our friends (because they'll make me LOL), but several of our other guests are also non dancers. I plan on having yard games (Cornhold, Giant Jenga, Bocce Ball, Farmers Golf, Wine Bottle Ring Toss), but also going to have 3 or 4 tables full of board games people can grab to play! We LOVE playing board games as do many of our friends.

Game night theme. Have board games as your centerpieces and let guests play games all night at their tables.

Carnival theme. Depending on where you'd like the reception to be...you can purchase or rent different carnival games and guests can play all night.

A really nice dinner party. You can hire a live band or soloist to play some beautiful mood music, light some candles, have your tables setup long ways so everyone can mingle, and have a lovely dinner party.

Brunch and bubbles. A nice brunch reception requires no dancing and is usually priced cheaper.

I would shorten the reception and do your cake cutting early.

If you ban dancing I can’t foresee people staying for very long. Maybe giving people games could be interesting but I know in my circles at least wedding games are met with a groan and eye roll.

Totally agree with Teresa saying to try a brunch wedding. People may not expect dancing for a brunch wedding.

What time of the day are you planning on having your wedding? If it's during the daytime doing a brunch/lunch or cake and punch reception would be fun to plan with a smaller guest list. Music and food would be very much well enjoyed and if it's just close family and friends they'll probably spend most of the time talking and catching up with each other. Since I'm assuming your wedding will be in October it might be a little cooler but yard games could work!

If you're planning an evening wedding it might be a little tougher because I feel like the majority of people coming to a wedding do enjoy dancing. I'd recommend at least having music going. You could plan on having dinner being one of the main focuses of the night. For entertainment maybe you could hire a live band to play some fun songs that you both enjoy as that would be fun to experience! Or hire a caricature artist to draw people which could be great and would fill in a good portion of the time.

Are there any fun things to do at the venue you picked? We're having our reception at the zoo and after the ceremony our guests are allowed to roam the zoo for an hour while the animals are still out and after that they are still able to walk around and explore throughout the whole night. I've known couples that had gotten married at a planetarium and muesum and it was a fun experience because afterwards we had a fun time exploring the area and didn't require dancing to have fun.
