No dance floor???

BK'sGIRL, on April 25, 2010 at 2:26 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

Has anyone ever been to a wedding that required the dancing to take place on the grass without a dance floor?

Both our reception and ceremony is going to take place in my Grandmother's backyard and I want everyone to dance but I am not going to put down a dance floor because I don't want to ruin the grass. Is this going to stop people from dancing?

Here is a picture of Grandma's house...

Can you make the deck outside the dance floor?

I have been to a couple weddings that were outside with no dance floor and this never was a problem. People will dance as long as there is music to dance to.

I don't think it will be a problem. We are having our on the beach and it would be extra to rent the dance floor. Maybe you can some how block off a dancing area. Are you having a tent? You could hang laterns by the dancing area.

Or you could build a dance floor out of the stepping stones(geometric shaped)at home depot...about how big do you want it?Just a suggestion good luck.-On second thaught it wouldnt be a bad idea at all for grass.I just wouldnt have silk or dyeable heels on.Gorgeous landscape by the way.

Thank you so much. You are all easing my mind.

No shoes at all. I'm a barefoot brideSmiley smile I have ran in this grass barefoot for so many years I couldn't imagine the hassel of shoes in the grass. But then I am missing out on buying georgous wedding shoes. OK, I just talked myself into buying new shoes just because I am not for the wedding. I LOVE IT! Zappos here I come!!!

From the DJ perspective/point of view... a Dance Floor will make everything better. There's less chance of injury if someone's heels get stuck in the grass. Portable dance floors will not usually affect the grass terribly bad. Usually within a week or two the grass is back to normal. I would encourage you to at least consider a small dance floor. In the long run, I think you will be glad you did!

I agree with having a dance floor-but if your wedding is not too formal then maybe everyone can just take off there shoes and dance? b/c dancing with heels in grass is no bueno. but i suppose if i were at wedding with no dance floor i would take off my shoes and join the fun!

I agree that a dance floor on grass for a few days will not kill it. Worest case scenario it did; you could sod the area for $40 bux or so. I think you or anyone else worrying about killing a patch a grass for your wedding day is crazy!

JMHO, Just because you're comfortable running around without shoes doesn't mean everyone will be. (Ex. Older people, or people that HATE feet.)

I worked at a venue in which the "dance floor" was an uneven parquet floor, surrounded by cobblestones. The bride and groom set up a couple of wicker baskets in which they provided inexpensive flip-flops for guests to wear while they were dancing. No dealing with heels OR bare feet.

Darn, I thought no dance floor won the consense!

You all have great and vaild points, but the grass dieing is not an option. This house has been in our family for 100's of years and if the grass dies because of my wedding I would feel so bad!

So, I am thinking about the flip flops, but what do you do with them after the wedding??? Would any brides having their wedding after me want to take them when I am done? I would hate to throw them away, but would anyone want slightly used flip flops?

I would be concerned with people injuring themsleves on damp grass, and I suggest taking out extra insurance for the event (it's only aone time thing)

Let the flip flops be your wedding favors. Let everyone take their pair home with them. Now none are wasted.

Thanks FMS, we already spoke to the insurance co. and they assured us we have enough coverage.

There was a situation last year where someone slipped going down the stairs into the water and slipped and broke their leg (the HO insurance payed the bill). We have uped the insurance since then.

But great thought! this is a reason we are doing an Adults only event, I would hate for parents to have to watch their kids around the water.

My wedding is in my backyard and I found a rental company that uses a new turf like flooring that wont damage the grass. Check into that and it was cheaper than the actual dance floor

If you're not going to have a dance floor I might do something fun like have your hubby sit down and you take his shoes off and then go dance to show everyone that's what you'd like them to do.
