No dance floor? Grass? Diy?

Josie, on June 18, 2018 at 12:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
We are having our wedding at a barn venue in our area. We’ve decided to have the dinner inside the barn and the dancing outside (it’s not big enough for both) we only have 40 guests. I am stressing over what to do about our dance floor... it’s $300 to rent one for 4 hours (that’s the cheapest, we’ve looked around!!!) and I really don’t want to spend that on a dance floor. So now I am thinking...

A- (the original plan that I am now doubting) the dance area is a grassy small field-ish area. The idea is that we are putting piles in the ground in a rectangle shape and stringing lights across the whole thing. Then surrounding the outer edges with hay bails (covered) for seating and a few cocktail tables. The DJ area is right off of this “dance floor.” Is dancing on the grass going to be an issue? To me, as long as the area is defined and shaped etc people should dance & I know there’s plenty invited who would like to dance. We are also offering the flip flop thing for girls to take their heels off. Is this crazy??

B- switch to eating outside and dancing inside?? The layout I feel would kinda be weird to switch but.

C- DIY a pallet dance floor. I think we could easily for wayyyy cheaper I just have no idea where we would put all the supplies afterward!!!!

D- suck it up and fork over the extra $300

in my “vision” the dance floor outlined with the lights and hay bails looks good but I’m afraid people won’t want to dance on the grass. But at the same time my families are crazy party people so I don’t know what to do!!!

D for sure! I'm not sure i'd want to dance on a field. Is everyone dressing casually? That may sway me over to the dance in a field camp if everyone will have very casual shoes on.

I would just pay the $300..I saw pallets online for about $100 for 96sq ft & they look like hardwood but appear to be foam..I can’t picture that on grass & the DIY for that just may not be worth it

It is dressy casual lol. It is a bbq like buffet style so it’s nothing fancy. We just want to have a good time!

If you think anyone will be wearing heels then the dance floor is a must, in my opinion.

Definitely rent the dance floor. $300 doesn't seem too expensive either.

This is a know your group kind of thing. Are they all the type to kick off their shoes and dance in the grass? If so, forgo the dance floor. If not, rent the dance floor.

I think you should pay, I was once at a wedding with just grass for the dance floor space and it didn't go so well because it had rained the morning of, people heels sunk in, and there were ants which some people we irritated/bitten

I think $300 sounds fair for renting a dance floor, the pallet DIY sounds very time consuming and may not end up much cheaper if you decide to stain it plus the potential cost of transporting it if you dont have a vehicle to accommodate it (i'm assuming you mean many pallets connected together so you'd need a truck for transport)

1-How much is renting a tent to eat outside-sorry throwing that in there?
2-What if it rains and you cant dance outside, have you checked the weather forecast for Saturday yet?

10x20 tents run at $50 plus $60 for delivery/set up/tear down.. not bad. Hopefully it won’t rain, but I can’t check the forecast considering it’s 4 months away sadly. 😬😬 id it rains she has a second band but it it’s very very very expensive to use.... and I don’t like the way it looks (more like a banquet hall than a barn)

Something else to consider, I'd wait on the dance floor until you know the weather
