No couple entrance and cake cutting song—is this okay?

Hi all! I am having a very small wedding with only 18 guests. My fiancé and I are not big dancers at all, so we won't be hiring a DJ. We're more looking for the wedding to be a family dinner style with people just chilling and getting to know one another. Because we won't have a DJ, we'll be making our own playlists for the day. The phone will connect to a PA system, and my sister will be in charge of playing and stopping the playlist when announcements need to be made by our MC. However, I am worried about playing specific songs during things like the cake-cutting, etc. I'm scared it'll sound strange when the playlist jumps from our background music to the cake-cutting song. Has anyone here done announcements and cake-cutting, etc., without any music? Did it sound awkward having to stop the music for the cake-cutting? Would it be easier just to cut the cake with whatever song is playing in the background? I'm totally stressed about this aspect of the wedding.

The songs usually change to a specific cake cutting song, and the transition is usually the MC announcing the cake cutting. So I think you should be fine.

Online, these elements are “required/expected” and “you will confuse everyone if you skip them”. As far as real life, not everything applies. In our circles, no couple has any introduction at the ceremony and guests are not confused in the least who the bride and groom are. Only on WW have we come across a cake cutting song. It’s not required and guests won’t miss the event if there is no specific song playing. For that matter, in our circles, there are no MCs giving any announcements and no one is confused about anything happening at any time, but every single dj and online article/forum would have you believe that there will be pandemonium if you don’t, which is not true. Do what works for you and don’t stress.

You can ask your sister who is charge of announcements to start the cake cutting announcement when a song ends or slowly and gradually lower the volume until it fades out and then she can begin her announcement so it’s not abrupt. I would have music playing while your doing the cake cutting so it’s not awkward silence.

That all sounds fine! I’m sure no-one would notice the sound transition. I know if you have Spotify you can fade music in and out but I totally don’t think it’s critical. Have a great day!

The background music will get interrupted for the MC to announce the cake cutting, so transitioning into a cake cutting song won't be an awkward transition. I think it makes sense to have something playing just so it's not awkward silence as most guests won't want to talk over the cake cutting.

Hey:
Since we are having a destination wedding many things are not traditional. So, we aren't having a song when we cut the cake, we are going to have someone announce when it's time to do the "big" things like that. You should be fine
