No candles, faux lighting options?

Harmony, on January 11, 2015 at 9:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Morning all,

Our venue recently changed their open flame policy (I actually learned about it through a vendor) so no candles on our tables. A year ago I was watching an episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and started to obsess over these square LED lights (I have NO idea what they are really called and have scoured the internet for an embarrassing amount of time). I took a screen shot of the show while I was watching it on Hulu to show you a picture. The last pic is of our venue.

What are your thoughts and opinions on these? Our linen will be ivory and our flowers will we whites, ivories, and creams. We'd like black napkins and will have the standard wood chiavari chairs with a cream/ivory (?) seat. My hope is to find some kind of covered luminary or tea-light to augment our high/low floral centerpieces.

Thank you in advance!

They are VERY expensive. I don't stock them as the weddings I do are usually on the more modest size. However, floral designers who do big lush designs will likely have these available to rent to their clients.

You could also go with flameless candles. Another idea are the floralytes.

    Best wishes.

I would do flameless. You can get flameless candles that look like real flames, but the are pricier. If you want the real candle effect, maybe you could use a few of those in certain areas where they would have the most impact, and use the regular flameless everywhere else. My favorite realistic flameless - I use them in my house - are Luminara at QVC. The flame flickers and moves just like a real flame, you can touch and move/bend it...it's not hard plastic. They are not easy on the budget though. http://www.qvc.com/CatalogSearch?langId=-1&storeId=10251&catalogId=10151&keyword=Luminara

If you're open to votives, I just got 100 flameless LED tealights and 72 frosted votives (so you can't tell the LEDs are flameless) on Amazon for about $80.

I'm in love with those rectangular lights, though. Sigh...

My venue has the same policy. I'm going with flame less votives. Not much help on the square ones, but if they were on the RH they have to be out of this world expensive. Lol

We have no open flame too, we stocked up on battery operate candles & we are doing some backdrops with string lights, so after christmas we bought a ton. & we are DIY'ing some ceiling decor with lights so we will have lots of lights but no candles.

Sure! These are the ones I ordered:

    Tealights:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NOX3DA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Votives (were under $40 when I ordered-- prices fluctuate): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QK4NFO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just FYI, I just ordered them on Friday so they haven't arrived yet, but I'm pretty confident given the reviews. I'm not super picky other than I wanted flickering LEDs.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments. It's much appreciated. I'm afraid a guest will look into a votive and see that it's a fake flame lol. As I write it I know it's absurd, I am still disappointed in the no candle policy that I found out about on accident. Good thing I didn't buy tea lights ahead of time. I think I'm going to go to a craft store and look at a votive/led light together and convince myself that it looks good. When I buy them I'm shipping them to the wedding location (across country) and I won't see them until a few weeks prior.

    I'm rambling, thanks again Ladies!

If I was smart I would've went to Sur and asked Lisa if she'd rent them out to me.

I was not productive when I was home in CA haha

Futuremrslav, may I ask if you're satisfied with the candles and votive holders? I'm ready to check out and want to be sure. Thanks!

Flameless candles are great and affordable! I have found some good ones at at http://www.eventswholesale.com/flameless-candles/ They normally last longer than a month, so you can even use them after your event, or give them out as favors!
