I was just at a wedding where the photographer was having difficulty taking pictures during the ceremony due to guests taking their own pictures. I've also been to quite a few weddings where guests have their arms & cameras in the aisle while the bride is walking down.

My fiancé and I discussed it & decided to ask our guests to keep their phones & cameras away during the ceremony.

What's the most polite way to do this?

Thank you!!

I don't mind people taking pictures but I would mind if they were standing in the aisle or the front where they might block my view of FH on my way up... so I'm putting tulle as aisle runners along the pews to prevent anyone from actually walking or stooping in the aisles. If they go around the front, I'm telling my bridal party to stop them before reaching the middle!

I don’t care if people have an unplugged ceremony. However, I hate the “be present and not through the lens argument.” I am a yoga and meditation teacher. I teach people to be present. I can be much more present framing a shot through my camera - because you have to pay attention to what is going on in order to get the picture - than I could be just sitting there. If I am just sitting there I could be thinking about eight million other things - my baby sitter, work, uncomfortable underwear etc. You cannot force anyone to be “present.” Of course, if you don’t want pictures taken, fine, but the argument of being present doesn’t quite work.

I have a sign when you walk in to the ceremony on an ease. The officiant will also announce it.
