No Attendants?

Ellen, on June 29, 2023 at 2:41 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6

My fiance and I are older (early 60s) and are planning a small-ish (approx 60) wedding for September 2024. He has a lifelong friend he would like to stand up for him, but I would rather not have any attendants. I don't really have "one" best friend, but a group of about 4 plus an adult daughter who would be "in the running." I don't want them to have to go to the expense and trouble of being in the wedding party but will enlist their help in other areas (my daughter can do hair & makeup and my friends can help with decor.)

My vision is for my fiance and I to "meet" at the end of the aisle and walk to the ceremony site together. He is okay with that but wants to give his buddy a special role. Any ideas?

FI’s friend doesn’t have to walk down the aisle or have a title to give a toast at the reception.

Your daughter is one thing but I would not enlist friends to help with decor unless they were to specifically offer without being asked. That’s your job as hosts or that of a paid vendor.

Great point about not needing a title. My friends offered to help, so I’m taking them up on it! It won’t be much-put out some centerpieces and hang a couple banners and aisle markers.

One of the girls got married last year and the other friend and I transported and set up chairs for her outdoor ceremony. I’m lucky to have friends who want to pitch in!

Another idea would be to have him give a reading at the wedding?

    Have fun planning and congrats!

Your fiancé’s friend can still be the best man, and then once he walks in he can sit in a seat in the front row so you and your fiancé can then enter together and stand alone during your vows.

I agree that I would ask your FH’s friend to do a toast at the reception. As a lifelong friend I’ll bet it would be very touching and special. 😊
