We aren't having any appetizers prior to dinner, but the bar will be open. Considering that our wedding is at 3:00 and the reception starts at about 5:00 would you miss the appetizers or just find something to eat in the meantime before dinner? i'm kind of bummed but we can't afford it, so I'm kind of like oh well!

Can you have soft drinks and punch instead of alcohol during the time between the service and the reception? Perhaps you can save enough money with that to have some simple appetizers...we had crackers & cheeses, veggies & dip, and a fruit tray. I didn't want anything heavy because there was a lot of food for dinner, but I knew some people would be hungry.

I have personally never been to a wedding that serves appetizers..I'm in Minnesota

It is usually just an open bar or beer and wine only for an hour and then you go into dinner. If your invite specifically says when dinner will begin and does not say anything about apps then I would not as a guest expect anything.

If you can't afford it, don't worry about it. I've been to weddings without appetizersSmiley smile

When I have been to weddings WITH appetizers, the appetizers weren't much! They were beautiful and carried around on trays by beautiful people, but it's not like that one pastry-wrapped asparagus spear or stuffed mushroom that I was able to snag was the difference between me being wasted or not.

We are having the reception at a different venue than our wedding so guests will have about a two hour window anyway. I do agree with the bar not being open until dinner and after so I think we are going to do that. I guess my main concern would be people expecting apps once they get to the reception but I'm not going to stress over that! We can definitely work on what time dinner will be served so maybe a salad can be served earlier than dinner. Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
