No alcohol or dancing at reception ? help

Maria, on December 3, 2018 at 9:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
I recently got engaged and well I’m baptist Christian, I’ve decided not to have any alcohol on the reception but I honestly am second guessing on have a little of music in the reception. But I’m not quite sure yet. Any of you are or have had any alternative fun activities in the weeding ? I really don’t want to have a tacky wedding.

Our church doesn’t allow alcohol on campus, so we’re doing a photo booth and music so people can dance if they choose to. Keeping in mind that it’s a dry wedding, we also chose an earlier time (reception wraps up at 4pm) so that if guests want to go to the bar next door, they have the rest of their night to do so. I’d say if you’re having a completely dry wedding, avoid evening reception times and have other things to do instead like a photo booth, dancing, or outdoor games.

Are you having your wedding earlier in the day? I find those tend to be dry wedding versus in the evening. You should have music at least that way there's some background noise.

I’d suggest having an earlier wedding. Have a photo booth and games so your guests are entertained.

I may have misread the question - do you not want music at your reception? If so is the reason religious or just preference?

Even if you don't want dancing at your wedding I still think that music is appropriate to play in the background so you guys aren't just sitting in a silent hall.

I would suggest a brunch wedding or just a cake a punch reception.

I've been to two weddings that were dry and little to no music. One was pulled over perfectly, the other was one of the worst weddings I have ever been to.

Friend had a brunch wedding, it was lovely, soft music playing in the background. We ate, then left. Whole thing was maybe 2 hours.

Second was a night wedding, super awkward, they did a first dance, then no other music. No drinking. Random people were playing cards at their tables. People barely talked to each other.

I've seen yard games & photo booths & video booths & interactive dessert bars. If you have a shorter reception, no dancing would be less of an issue.

I went to a wedding that had a wine punch, put no other alcohol, and no DJ, just a playlist, no dance floor. We left after they cut the cake which they did right after “dinner” i use that word loosely as it was really just snacks.
    It was kind of boring.

You could have a beautiful brunch wedding without alcohol or dancing. You could have a few lawn games, a photo booth or food stations to encourage guests to get up and move around. A brunch wedding is usually a lot less expensive too.
