Anyone in NJ know if when changing your name on driver’s license you receive the license that day at the DMV? Pretty sure before the pandemic you did but who knows what rules they’ve now changed so if anyone has done it since they reopened in July let me know!

In the past any time I have renewed my license, I received it right there. But not sure if they do that for name changes. And no I dont think so..assuming they will update the license to Real ID for anyone who doesnt have it though?
In my state they give you a paper copy and then mail the new official one. I would call your local DMV to find out, and I wouldn’t assume they’ll automatically issue you a REAL ID. None of the states in my area do it automatically because there’s a lot more paperwork/proof of identification needed to obtain it.

They should update it to a real ID because I believe everyone should have it by October of next year, and that's across the board federally. And yes precious license they used to get it the same day but with the real ID I know many states were mailing them and giving you a piece of paper in case you got pulled over
