Night Wedding Timeline

Kristen, on November 27, 2019 at 9:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

I am having my ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts in their outdoor garden that will be dimly lit and strung with twinkle lights. With my ceremony being so late, I have opted for a cocktail style reception to follow. I am not wanting to do first look before the ceremony and am only wanting a few staged photos of us and my wedding party after the ceremony as I prefer our photographer to capture the candid moments throughout the night instead... I am trying to figure out what all I can include with such a late start and in what order to do everything without it seeming too scheduled out. I want my guests to be entertained but also have fun themselves.... My timeline so far is:

7:00-8:00 - Guests arrive/ private gallery viewing

8:00 - Begin seating for ceremony in the garden (Sun had begun to set)

8:30 - Ceremony begins (Sun has mostly set by now)

9:00 - Reception begins in the nearby conservatory (Wedding party quick photos from 9:00-9:25)

9:30 - Wedding party introductions

Welcome speech from my dad

Toasts by MOH & Best Man ( I have both a Maid of Honor and Matron of Honor... Should just one prepare a speech?)

9:45 - First Dance

Father/Daughter Dance

Mother/Son Dance

Anniversary Dance

10:15 - Cake Cutting

10:45 - Bouquet Toss

12:00 - Reception over

I will be having heavy hors d'oeuvres stations as well as several passed hors d'oeuvres along with an ice cream station, dessert station, coffee station and open bar.

I really like the idea of the newlywed game but I am concerned there just wont be enough time. Open dancing will be between all those listed above.... Thanks for your help!

I think the timing is okay however don't stress yourself out too much with the timeline because things may go over. Also are you factoring in pictures before the ceremony of you and your future husband's groomsmen and Amber bridal party and all of that? I think you'll be fine but when you say the reception starts right after the ceremony do you mean the cocktail hour? Because usually the reception doesn't start until the bride and groom have entered.

We aren't doing a cocktail hour just going straight into a cocktail reception. No sit down dinner just heavy hors d'oeuvres and open bar from 9pm-12pm. Yes, we will do pictures separately before the ceremony but again mainly just getting ready photos. I do not want a bunch of staged photos.

I mean I'm not the wedding planner to consult here hahaha. But that sounds good and I think that your plan is going to be awesome. At the end of the day the most important thing is that you are starting on a new life Journey with your future husband and that's what really matters. I think as long as you have food and alcohol people will be just fine. I hope your timeline goes very well.

Oh and I'm from St Pete so the great thing about the Fine Arts Museum especially at night is that people can also go out and get some amazing views of the bay or even in front of The Vinoy. I think you picked a really good location and even for Guess that may come early but may not want to look at a private viewing they can always go across the street and have a couple of drinks hahaha or even better gelato.
