Nieces - Bridesmaids?

Molly, on August 30, 2016 at 9:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hi there! I'm in a little bit of a pickle. I have 3 nieces, 11, 13 and 16. I am very close with them. My mom is pretty much saying I HAVE to have them as bridesmaids along with my 4 other bridesmaids. Isn't that too much?

Does anyone have any other suggestions on rolls for them? Maybe the three of them can walk down together as bridesmaids? They are too young to walk down the aisle with my fiancé's groomsmens who are in their 30's and 40's ha. I am just looking for ideas. Any suggestions are helpful!

Thank you!

Junior bridesmaids and as you said. They can all walk down together. Remember, what makes you happy. Follow your heart

I am having my 11 will then be 12 niece as a Jr bridesmaid. Her father (my brother) is a groomsman so i thought it would be cute for her dad to walk her down the aisle cause i felt weird with her walking down with grown men as well.

I'm having FH's 11 year old niece (we're super close) as my jr. bridesmaid. I'm having my 9 year old cousin man the guestbook and gift table. She still gets to wear a fancy new dress and I'll put some makeup on her when the rest of the "big girls" are getting ready. There are a lot of fun little roles you could have them do.

You don't HAVE to include anyone. So if you don't want them problem solved. If you do, do as others suggested and have them walk down together. They could also hand out programs or do a reading.

They can be junior bridesmaids! I was planning on my two nieces being jr bridesmaids, and sent them a card asking them and everything. They were so excited about it.

You absolutely do not HAVE to have anyone as a bridesmaid! They could be full bridesmaids if you want, or junior bridesmaids, or nothing at all - you're close with them and you're getting married, it's still special for all of your friends and family!

Also keep in mind - more bridesmaids means more money spent on bridesmaid gifts, hair & makeup etc., more guests that need to be invited to the rehearsal dinner!

Choose whoever you want as a bridesmaid. I'm having my three cousins standing up (18, 16 and 13). the 18 & 16 year old will walk down with FH's friends (both married in their early 30s) and the 13 year old will walk by herself.

We had our 11 year old niece and nephew as greeters, they were so sweet and handed out programs to everyone as they arrived.

Junior bridesmaids is the clear solution. My BMs were all adults and they still didn't walk with the groomsmen. The average BM age for me was like 21/22. I'm 26. FH is 30 and all but one GM was older than him. Most are married or engaged and all but one are in a relationship. Just knew my dad wouldn't feel right having my 18, 19, and 21 year old sisters walking in with 34 year old married men. So we have them walk in separately during the processional and during the recessional me and DH walked out then the MOH, then the BM, followed by the BMs and then GM. Worked out fine.
