Nickname vs Real Name on Save the Dates/invites?

Stacie, on December 10, 2022 at 9:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
My real name is Anastasia, but I go by Stacie. Very few people on my FH's side know that, as well as our large mutual friend group. Maybe 25-50% of the guest list would know. Anyhow - what should I put on materials like Save the Dates and Invitations? Our save the dates won't have our pictures on them either.

I think on save-the-dates it would be fine to use nicknames. Save-the-dated are informal and often just an email.

On the real invitations, though, I think it depends on the formality of your wedding. Is it casual, black tie, something else? (A lot of people don't know my full name either, but I used it on our invitations because some people have a habit of messing it up and call me something different.)

As noted above, depends on the formality you are looking for. My fiancé goes by a nickname and we used that on save the dates, but we wanted a more formal feel for invitations and so used his actual real name there. But it’s totally up to you and the vibe you want!

I was in the same situation- I go by a shortened version of my name, and only my family even knows my full legal name. I used the name I go by on both the STDs and invitations. Our wedding is a personal, intimate event, and my legal name is something I only use for professional, business documents. It just didn’t feel right to use it in that situation. I think you should do whatever feels right and natural you you. It’s your wedding, and formalities shouldn’t come before your comfort.

I did this to my husband without realizing the potential problem 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ He goes by his middle name but we put his first name on the invitations. It caused a lot of confusion on my side of the family because they only know him by his middle name. Cue lots of questions about who this mystery man I was marrying was. During the wedding speeches, my dad cracked a joke about it (we are very close) and I don’t regret it at all 😂 no one will ever forget who he is now
