Newly engaged- crazy for hoping we can pull off fall 2022?

Micaela, on November 13, 2021 at 10:27 AM Posted in Planning 1 18
Hi all! Brand new here and freshly engaged. Am I out of my mind for hoping we can pull off sept/oct 2022? I’ve known tons of people who have made weddings happen in under a year- but I keep hearing that venues are SO booked “post” covid, like horror stories of places being booked through 2025.
I’m a *slightly* older bride (34), and I really do not want to push until 2023 and be 36 - especially because we’ll be marrying in the New England area and I want to avoid the winter. I’ll be working with a really incredible planner so I’m thinking that will help my chances, and I’m remaining open minded about venue and location (I’m from cape cod and that’s my top choice, but I know there’s a lot of places we can make special and “us”). Curious if there’s any other brides that are doing the same right now and if you’re having any luck?

Congratulations on your engagement!! I don't think you're out of your mind at all, though I think your biggest challenge will be finding a venue and vendors. Since so many people postponed from 2020, vendor schedules are filling up in 2021 and 2022. I think it is do-able though! I'd start looking for venues and vendors pretty soon, but otherwise, I say go for it! Happy wedding planning!

Not crazy at all. I’m planning for Nov 2022 and so far my biggest issue is finding a photographer. But everything else has been super easy.

You can definitely make this work! You may just have to be less picky with venues/vendors.

Some vendors may be a bit of a challenge, but I think it's realistic! We are working on October 9th, 2022, and truthfully just really started planning in the past couple weeks. The venue was slightly tricky but we picked a Sunday with a holiday on Monday so everybody will still be free to come and enjoy! Photographers and florists I'm finding are a challenge (homecomings, fall graduations, etc). It sounds like you have a great planner, so that will definitely help!

We had 12 months and had no issues with that being too short. We did have a Sunday wedding to get our venue, but that ended up being great because it was cheaper! I think you’ll be fine as long as you can flexible

It's not that unreasonable at all. We're getting to the finish line with signing a contract with our desired venue as early as next week for October 2022, moving onto caterers that we've already initiated contact with, then initiating contact with photographers. I think we only got lucky with the October date in Southern California because we picked an uncommon venue that was just remodeled and then closed due to the pandemic, only hosted one wedding in that timeframe.

The pandemic has certainly thrown a wrench in the typical wedding timeline, which makes planning as far as a year out not crazy since many 2020 weddings and early 2021 weddings got pushed out. One of my backup venues is a country club that only had a December date available, right after I found out at the site tour that someone already snagged the only Fall Saturday evening I asked for! It's good that you say you're open-minded about the venue, because it seems like venues that appear to be the most obvious choices are being booked quickly either due to postponed weddings or new ones.

It would be a normal timeframe. And, by the way, so is getting married at 34 if you live in a big city.

I would say, yes, it’s possible. But there are a record breaking number of weddings next year, so with all of the potential vendors being booked already, maybe keep an open mind about your options and know that you may have to compromise on some things. Best of luck!

I feel the same as you! I’m 42 and marring my high school sweetheart. We lost touch after high school. We both moved on and had children. We ran into each other one day and started catching up. Turns out we were going through a divorce at the same time. That was eight years ago and we’re still going strong. We woke up one day and said screw it, let’s get married. That was three weeks ago! Our wedding is in March! Talk about stressful. What was I thinking only giving myself 5 months to plan a wedding!!!!!! I’m optimistic though, so far so good!

Feeling the same way! I’d love to aim for a Oct/Nov 2022 wedding but feeling a bit overwhelmed to commit to a venue asap. May have to push it to winter or spring 2023 but I just really didn’t want to wait any longer. We’ve been together for 8 years and already live together so we want to finally celebrate and continue on with our lives!! Eek

I’m in the exact same boat! Recently engaged, almost 34, wanting Fall 2022.

We originally planned on early 2023, but live in the northeast and are worried about winter weather.
We have 4 venues we are visiting this week and they all had (really limited) availability for fall 2022.
I personally think it’s doable as long as you’re open minded and flexible!

36 here, high five older brides! We are planning ours in under a year. As long as you are not set on a certain day or location, totally doable. We were really open to where we did it and who our venders would be so no biggie.

Congratulations! It's totally doable. I just got engaged on our anniversary 11/11, and we will get married on 11/11. Booking the venue first and then hopefully, everything else will fall into place. Good luck!!

Congratulations! Like others have said, I’m sure it can be done. You may just need to be more flexible in terms of your choices, ie. Be flexible in terms of dates when you look for venues. It might be a lot to cram into a yeah but it should be doable. If you have the budget for it, hiring a day-of coordinator that you work well with should also help with finding other vendors as they usually have way more contacts than we know of.

You still have almost a year, which is a typical timeframe. I'd go for it.

I'm in the same exact boat! I just got engaged a couple weeks ago. And I'm also 34. and I would really love an August wedding next year. I'm actually about to call a couple venues as we speak, so hopefully the date is available. I've heard it's possible, girl! Good luck!

I got engaged last February but we didn’t start really planning until September when we found a venue on a whim we liked and booked it. We didn’t even know when we wanted to get married yet until seeing this venue and decided on October next year! So we only have a year. I’ve been basically wedding focused, booked our caterer, photographer, videographer, day of coordinator, officiant and our DJ all in the last 2 months. I’ve gotten every one of my first picks so far. Now all that’s left is decor, attire, and dessert! And coming up with the money 😅😅😅 which I have no idea where it’s coming from lol. I think a year is doable if you’re focused
