Newland Barn, Huntington Beach, CA

Hello all!

My wedding is at the Newland Barn in Huntington Beach on July 2. I am looking for anyone who has had their wedding there and is willing to share pictures. I am trying to figure out a set up as far as the inside room. Did you use drapery? If so, from what company? What did you put in there? I was thinking food, dessert, and photo booth. Does the DJ need to be set up in there as well? Thank you!

Any other tips and tricks will gladly be accepted!!!

    Hi Amy,

Talk to your venue. When we booked our venue (also a barn, btw) - our venue planner gave us all of this info. She had a list of vendors that are used there often that have great reviews. I also requested info on how different weddings had set up in the past, and she actually sent us Visio diagrams of past weddings that showed where tables were, where the food was, cake tables, DJ, dancefloor, etc . She also has pictures of every wedding that has been held there, and has been more than willing to share.

Some venues have preferred vendors, and you are only only allowed to use those. Check into that as well. Good luck! Also, welcome to the forums. Check out the below link, it has some great FAQ and instructions on how to change your avatar. You will get more responses with a picture of some sort, rather than the double rings. Smiley smile Happy planning, Amy!

Thanks JamieLynn! I took your advice!

Unfortunately the barn is all DIY there are not approved vendors or a venue planner. It is owned by the city, so the only real rules are beer and wine only and a curfew of 12.

I have looked at photos on Google, but they just aren't what I am looking for.

Well, that's a bummer that they can't help you out with those things. But yea, as Kit mentioned, google may be your best friend. And keep in mind, we are always here to run ideas by, too!

They have the floorplan on their website - you may just have to be creative and play around with different set ups.

And they hold a lottery to determine who gets to actually rent the place due to high volume of requests? I've never heard of that before. Interesting! Smiley smile

The layout is super helpful! Thanks!

Yes, there is a lottery. We originally wanted July 16 but didn't win the lottery. I think there is a high volume of requests because it is cheap ($1,000 for 10am-12am) and it is all DIY.

Are you setting up your reception inside or outside the barn? Rounds, or banquer tables?

I'm having my wedding there in May! Unfortunately we have no help from the city. I want to do drapery inside the barn but I haven't found anyone to do it yet. If you could share who you're using, I'd appreciate it! My DJ has done about 20 weddings there and he says he always sets up outside, which is perfect. I plan on using the concrete space as the dance floor. I would love to connect with you and share some ideas! I googled Newland Barn weddings and you can see real photos from real weddings and get a lot of ideas!

Amanda, Can you tell me what Dj you are using? I'm also getting married there in May and still need to find a DJ. Happy to hear they will set up ourside, I'm also going to use the concrete area as the dance floor! Smiley smile

Hi all! I’m getting married here as well and wondering if you have any advice from your experience. Also wondering if you had to hire a bar tender or was able to have it self serving. Thanks!

    Hi Niki,
I hired my friends sister as the bartender. It’s easy since it’s onky beer and wine. We got Kegs & wine/champagne from Trader Joe’s. You don’t need one though.

I used Harbor Party rentals for the big stuff, Stone Fire for food, and my friends cousin for a DJ. I could find my list of other vendors and email you if you leave your email. Good luck!
