New Years Eve Wedding

Because of my work situation I only have certain dates available to pick my wedding date... either this June (4 months away) or over Christmas time.... Christmas time gives us more time to plan and not be stressed, but all our family is out of town and I don’t want to stress them out with traveling...

Christmas time gives us more time to plan and not be stressed, but all our family is out of town and I don’t want to stress them out with traveling over the holidays... I was thinking a New Years Eve wedding.. thought it could be fun and not interfere with Christmas too much.
Has anyone been to or had a New Years Eve wedding? What are the pros and cons?

I was invited to a NYE wedding and declined. I wasn’t super close to the couple but I am not one who likes to go out for public places for New Years. I do not like to be on the roads with everyone else and the rates for nye hotels and transportation is crazy. Uber rates sky rocket. If it was a super close friend or family I would have signed and sucked it up and went

I like to celebrate NYE close to home celebration of life and the new year to come, not just to put the highlight on two people

Wow so many good ideas and advice... I’m thinking either rush and do this summer or do Dec 29 instead of New Years... too much added things to worry about on New Years Eve it sounds like.

You can get married in June or new year eve. They both will work. You can plan it however you want. You have time.

I’m getting married on NYE this year! We booked all vendors in advance, and the only upcharge we dealt with was catering. One more than tripled their rates. We ditched them (we think they just didn’t want to work the holiday.) Our venue found us a way better option that just charged a flat $1,000 fee for extra labor costs, which was way easier than tripling the per person price. We actually may end up doing heavy station options so it’s more of a huge cocktail party style and people can be up, dance, and not have to sit at 4 course meal that takes forever to serve. The hotel block we reserved gave a great rate because I watched prices this year and knew what to go in negotiating for. It’ll be more formal for sure (groomsmen wearing tuxes, no children, etc.) but it hasn’t costed us that much more than any peak season summer date. We aren’t do floral centerpieces, so I’ve been picking up stuff as I go. Our families are huge partiers though, so as long as there’s a lot of good booze, food, and music, they’ll be happy! (You do need to go into it with a game plan and plenty of planning time to make sure you can get what you want.)

I don’t agree with a lot of the posts in this discussion. My wedding is on NYE in a hotel in the DC area. The rooms blocks are at minimum $120 per night. The catering costs $30-50 pp (haven’t picked what I want yet). We are not doing open bar because I simply don’t want to pay for it. And it doesn’t have to be black tie because it’s NYE. Yes it depends on the area you’re in but remember you can tell the venue what you’re NOT going to do because they want your business. This was the case for my venue.
