My fiancé and I are getting married on New Years Eve 2022. When should we send out save the dates?

Save the dates are sent as soon as you book your venue. You need to have your guest list set in stone before you shop for venues. 6-12 months ahead. If cost is a concern, they have successfully been issued by word of mouth for decades. Invites are sent at 6-8 weeks standard. Do not send them earlier because guests will lose and forget the information and think you are B listing and don’t really want them in attendance.

For a New Year's Eve wedding, I recommend sending Save The Dates anywhere between April and June (6-8 months in advance). If your wedding is a destination wedding or if many of your guests will need to travel to attend your wedding, then I would send Save The Dates in April (or even March), just to give as much notice as possible. Otherwise, any time in that 6-8 month window would be totally fine.

Save the dates are usually sent 6-8 months before the wedding, because it's NYE, maybe do 8 months if your guest list is finalized.

I would send them ASAP, as some people make plans WAY in advance. (We already have plans for next NYE because we always take trips). I am in the WW minority that I think you can't send them out too early. We sent our invites out 4 months ahead of time because we have lots of travelers.

Totally agree with this! My wedding is 2/25/23 and I just mailed my Save the dates this past weekend. Many of my friends and family are in NJ, and I live in Orlando, so I wanted to give them plenty of time to think ahead, especially if they want to make it into a mini Disney vacation . I’m not sure when to do the actual invitations; I have to let the caterer know the headcount number a month in advance. And two months ahead is right at Christmas time! I am guessing maybe right after Thanksgiving I will mail those.

I think holiday weddings need save the dates and invitations earlier than the usual 6-8 months. I would send them in January when New Year's Eve is fresh on they're mind. Then send invitations in September.

First of all, congrats on the engagement. You both look so happy with each other. New Year's Eve is a ways away, but it doesn’t hurt to plan a little early. According to this wedding stationary timeline, you should be sending your save the dates out anywhere from 6-12 months prior to your wedding date: https://www.magnetstreet.com/wedding-stationery-timeline

I would recommend sending them out around the 9 month mark though, because personally I think that 12 months is too early to send them out. With this being said, that doesn’t mean that you need to wait 2 months to order them, because you should get it out of the way as soon as possible. When we were planning our wedding, I decided to order my save the dates from MagnetStreet, because they had these magnets that I thought were so cool: https://www.magnetstreet.com/shop/save-the-date-magnets

If you send someone a normal paper card, chances are they will throw it in a drawer and forget all about it, while a magnet will most likely be put on the fridge, and be a daily reminder to save the date to your wedding. Our guests loved the magnets as well, and though that they were a great idea.
