New save the dates

Sam, on September 8, 2020 at 8:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi ladies!

Originally we were supposed to get married on 6/20/20. With Covid, that didn’t happen.
We have a 200 person guest list and got “save our new dates” made. Our new date is on a Friday, 6/4/20. About 30% of our guest list coming from out of state.
My question is it to early to send them out? Orginally I didn’t think so since it’s a Friday, so many weddings were rescheduled this year, and since a decent amount of the guest will need to make travel adjustments. But June is far away still, so who knows what could happen.
If it helps, the last thing we said to our waiting guests was that we rescheduled and will send out more info when we have it. We notified everyone of this in May.

Send them out now so guests can make travel arrangements and schedule time off. There's no telling if anyone else on your guestlist is also invited to other postponed weddings around the same time.

I would send them out now. With the number of people postponing from 2020 to 2021, everyone's calendars are filling up for next year, so I would suggest sending them out earlier than normal to get your date on your guest's calendars.

Honestly, a 200 person wedding in June of 2021 is most likely wishful thinking. My state and the others around it have shown no intention of increasing the size of gatherings (we're at 50 right now) any time soon. You're about 9 months out and a lot can happen in 9 months. Before you sent out STDs, I recommend thinking about what's your plan if you can only have 50-100 people? Are you going to reschedule? Downsize? Because you may have to uninvite 100-150 people. Hopefully, we will know more by Nov./Dec., esp. we should know whether we will have a vaccine by the summer. Personally, I would wait until Nov./Dec. to send out STDs and then only send to VIPs. In general (even pre-Covid), the best way forward with STDs is to only send to VIPs, then you can make changes to your guest list at a later date no matter what. Sending a STD basically requires you to send the person an invitation and a lot can happen between now and June (job changes, friendships change, Covid, etc.)

If you've already told all your guests to wait for the new date, then I'd go ahead and send out your new save-the-dates! 💌
