New Orleans mini moon?

Hailey, on October 9, 2016 at 12:33 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

Up until this morning FH and I had kinda decided taking a honeymoon right after the wedding wasn't feasible. So we decided on a 1 year anniversary Ireland trip.

But I was thinking about it today, we could probably manage to get away for a long weekend. And we've both said we want to go to New Orleans. Good idea? What are some good things to do? Will it be ungodly hot in May/June?

I just went to New Orleans in June. We had so much fun, definitely check out the French Quarter and the Alligator Tours!

I celebrated my 30th in NO last December. It was a dream trip (especially because that is where my dad's side of the family is from and I had never been before). I enjoyed evening walks around the French Quarter, it's so lively and there's so much to see and hear! I did a ghost tour which was fun, and I did a cemetery tour which was also awesome. Of course there is also all of the amazing food! Just keep in mind that NO is more than Bourbon Street. It's a beautiful city, with beautiful people, and lots of culture. You can make what you want out of it, so I think it would make a fantastic mini-moon Smiley smile

I live in NOLA and yes it will be hot, very hot! Check out the French quarter, Bourbon Street for a handgrenade from Tropical Isle, swamp tours, aquarium, zoo, insectarium, haunted ghost tours, the French market, grab some beignets from Cafe du Monde on the river, steamboat Natchez ride, tons of places to eat, get some boiled crawfish and raw or charbroiled oysters on a half shell, airboat tours, tons of museums including WWII museum, St.Louis cathedral, shopping at the river walk.........there is TONS to do!

I've been in May and it was hot but totally bearable. @EventuallyErmon hit about everything I was going to say. Cafe du Monde being at the top of the list Smiley smile if you want a nice dinner, I went to Muriels once and it was really good and just a cool restaurant in general. Love NOLA - FH has never been so hoping to plan something in the next few years!

Loved New Orleans. Went for the first time last February. Had so much fun just walking up and down Bourbon St. Also I found it amazing that they let you take your drink TO GO!

I've been to New Orleans twice and it's a lot of fun! I went in July one time, which was definitely hot but not unbearable. There's a lot to see and so. One thing I did that was super fun was a nighttime ghost tour in the French Quarter. Swamp tours are cool too. And there's sooo much food!

A mini getaway is a great idea! That's where our honeymoon cruise is leaving from and we're staying a couple days after we get off the boat to enjoy N/O too! I say go for it!

My mini moon is here too! We have no set plans yet, except for eating and drinking. We will probably do a ghost tour as well.

I've been to New Orleans 3 times. My favorite city. Go you'll have a blast. Do a ghost tour or Vampire tour. So much fun. I will be going back in a couple of years for me and one of my best friends 50th birthday. Went at 45 too. The food and music, amazing!!!!!

I'm from New Orleans and if you're going to come, early summer is definitely better than later. August is usually our hottest month but May is usually pretty decent. I haven't looked at the responses but I'm sure everyone hit up the main stuff. Make sure you venture outside of the Quarter. Go Uptown and the Garden District. Magazine street and St. Charles. Visit the zoo and local boutiques as well. Wear comfy shoes!!!

Also, coming from a local, try Morning Call in City Park for coffee and beignets rather than Cafe du Monde if you want a more relaxing atmosphere.

ETA plus you'll be right there at the New Orleans Museum of Art which is amazing! And there's always Rock n Bowl on Carrollton, which is so much fun!
