Never worn a dress before

Johnnie, on January 6, 2020 at 12:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
I’ve no idea what style of wedding dress to get. I’m 5’4”, 120lbs and have absolutely NO body to speak of!

Oh, and my fiancé is 6’1”” lol

I think a ballgown might be too much for you, but you never know! My FH is 6' 3" to my 5' 6", and I originally bought a ballgown. But it looked huge on me - my legs didn't quite work for it. I've opted for a mermaid fitted gown that shows off my hard won curves.

Try A-line dresses! They are flattering on almost every body type and are gorgeous!

Yes! A-line or sheath. Honestly, go in and try things on - you may be surprised at what looks good on you. Seeing the models is one thing, but you have to see them on yourself. My first round of dresses, I was surprised at what I did and didn't like. Best way to know is go try things on by yourself to get an idea of the shape you want, then go from there.

The David's Bridal website has a feature for finding the perfect silhouette for your body. You just answer a short series of questions about your body type and preferences, and it calculates the silhouette (A-line, ball gown, sheath, etc.) that would flatter your body the most. Even if you don't plan to get your dress from DB, you can still use that tool before going shopping.

I would highly recommend going in to a salon, even if it's just to play around with styles and fabrics. Try on every different silhouette in a bunch of different fabrics. You really won't know what you like on your body until you try the dresses on. If you're not comfortable in a dress, there's always other options as well. There have been some beautiful bridal pantsuits and jumpers that I've seen.

I would go for maybe an A-line for you?

sometime its better to make an appointment and just try some stuff on. see what you like and what looks best.

I understand. There are a lot of options! Try not to put too much stock in the dress...at the end of the day, it's only a piece of clothing; your marriage is more important than a dress! Go with whatever makes you feel comfortable and beautiful!

I’m about the same size as you just a bit taller with absolutely no curves lol. A ball gown looked ridiculous on me and the mermaid also just didn’t work at all. I asked the consultant to pick a dress she thought would look best on me, any dress, and she picked a gorgeous sheath gown that I ultimately picked! I also added a belt because I have a small waist and I thought it did a good job of pulling it together and making me feel more bridal. Trust the consultants because they see a ton of brides of all shapes and sizes and ultimately will know what will be beautiful and flattering on you!

Honestly I would just schedule a bridal appointment and go in there and have a ball lol. Your consultant will be able to pull all types of different styles for you and once you begin trying a few on you will start to notice what you like and what you don't like and then any other appointments after that you'll know more of what to pull. Good luck and have fun!
