Nervous dress shopping

Stick to your budget. Don't try on a dress that you may fall in love with that you can't afford, because nothing will compare to that.

My other piece of advice is to not stick to one style of dress. Go in with pictures of what you like, but be open to the consultant's suggestions. My sister swore up and down she'd never try on a halter top, but she didn't want to take one off.

Last of all, have fun! It can be overwhelming (I was ready to put my street clothes back on after my first two appointments). Good luck!

I put on fun music and had a nice hefty mimosa to start the day! I think a lot of the jitters fall away after you step into the first gown and it just feels so real!

I hope that once you begin trying them on you'll relax! Sticking to your budget is a great piece of advice... it's hard not to fall in love with every dress!! It sounds silly but have you heard of power poses? They're supposed to make you feel confident by standing certain ways. I always push my shoulders back, think about making my back really long, and put my hands on my hips. Again, sounds so silly but it always works to boost confidence and calm me!

I agree with KR, definitely stick to your budget and go in with an open mind. Try not to stress, make it a fun afternoon/evening followed with drinks after.

Relax. It is a fun experience and even if there is nothing at this store you fall in love with I'm sure there are many other stores in the area to try!

Just try and relax and have fun. Trust me it'll be really exciting just putting on the first one even if you don't end up liking it and from there it'll be so much fun. Try on different styles, because you never know what you might fall in love with! Also as PP's stated- stick to your budget.

Try and throw on some fun tunes in the car on the way and sing it out loud and proud to get yourself pumped! Have fun!

When I went I kept in mind that I had plenty of time and if I didn't find it the first try that was okay. There are thousands of different styles, stores, and designers out there. Maybe the dress that is meant for you won't be easy to find and hats okay. Because in the end it's all worth it! Just stay positive and look at it as a fun, once in a life time exciting experience!

I brought my mom and FSIL along and that helped since I am close to both of them! We made a whole day of it (went out to eat in between appointments) and had fun being together! So I say just relax and bring a few close friends/family members with you-have fun and enjoy this special experience!! ;-)

Wedding dresses are made differently than other dresses, they are made to fit of good material. You will be surprised how many look good, might not be the one but you will look beautiful in them

If you don't find anything this time don't freak out. Go to another store.

I felt the same way last week. I even thought about calling to cancel my appointment because I was just really beating myself up. Go! It turned out to be a wonderful experience I found my dress...one that was probably 5 sizes too small and I knew it was the one (lol but will be ordered in the correct size). I think my consultant was a huge help. They are the experts and it is their to job to make sure you look good.

Have fun

Bring a drink, water/wine or whatever you like, and snacks! You lose a lot of energy trying on dresses!

Thanks everyone for the advice. It was a long day but I actually found the perfect dress at the 3rd store we went to today.

You never know until you try on dresses. My dress ended up being one that I said I'm not sure about it but I'm trying it on because it looks different on a hanger than it does on a person. It's best to go in without a particular style because you will be open minded as to style of dresses. You will find the dress when you least expect it! Stay positive!

Try to relax. I was super nervous I went dress shopping today for the first time and found my dress at the second shop. We had a little champagne. So that helped. I hope you find the one.
