Nervous about vows

Alex, on November 8, 2014 at 5:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I do not like public speaking and really do not want 100 people to hear me say my vows to the love of my life. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would either suggest getting married in city hall so you don't have that many people or if you want a big wedding, just look at him the entire time and don't look out into the crowd.

We aren't big public speakers either. We have opted to do repeat after me kind of vows.

I also feel like having our natural voices instead of talking into a microphone or something will make us more comfortable. Luckily our venue has good acoustics, and we will have less than 100 people.

You could write something your comfortable saying in from of people. Something short sweet and to the point then right him a note woth all your feelings that he can read after the ceremony?

Or maybe do your personalized vows together in private, and just do normal vows in front of people?

You should have the officiant say "and now the bride will whisper her vows privately into her husband's ear."

Our minister said "do you ...vows we chose" then each of us in turn said "I do" so he did mist of the talking and we didn't stumble over the words. It was perfect for both of us as neither of us likes public speaking

I love public speaking (kinda do it for a living). My issue = TEARS.. I know I wont be able to say a word. So im considering doing our vows in private, or a letter before, or IDK.. but every time im cooking and thinking about that moment tears come rolling down my face, and my wedding is ONE YEAR AWAY! talk about a problem. lol!!

    Simplify them!

And maybe exchange private letters before the ceremony.

We went to a wedding in April where the couple recorded their vows and played them during the ceremony.

Uhhh haha what's going on with the replying to your own post situation?

As far as the original question is concerned, I would suggest getting creative by doing what BunnyLove mentioned, or adding in another option like writing vows and having the officiant read them to your guests as part of the ceremony.

I have the same issue and we had 250 people at our wedding. We just repeated after our officiant, and my husband totally botched it still. Everyone got a hood laugh, including me and I felt like it took attention off of me speaking. In all honesty I have severe anxiety and panic disorders and worried for MONTHS about speaking. That day, I was as calm as can be and wasn't even nervous. A lot of brides told me they were calm the day of as well and I thought they were insane. But I was just excited and ready to marry my man!

Haha sorry for the confusion, my fiancee didn't know she was logged in under my account when she posted the question. I got an email alert about it and had to reply. I think the problem we are having is mostly my fault, I told her I was writing my own vows and asked if she would write me something personal for our wedding... it would mean a lot, but is it worth the stress?

I'm with you. I become so nervous about public speaking, even when it's people I know! I think I do better with total strangers lol.

I think there was a recently married couple here who did personal vows privately during a First Look. Maybe that?

Friends of mine read their vows to each other before the ceremony as they held hands around a door so they couldn't see one another. And a photographer took pictures of them as they did it.

The pictures are adorable and very special.

They had their vows written on their programs for anyone who wanted to read them.

I think this is a very precious alternative!
