Nervous About Photographer

Kelly, on June 25, 2024 at 12:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
I’m unsure if I’m being an overly nervous bride to be or if I actually have something to worry about. We did a lot of research for photographers for our wedding and found one we really liked. We filled out the form on her website. We went back and forth emailing, it took up to a week or so to get a responses, once or twice I had to email to follow up as there was no response at all. She did disclose it’s been a busy season so we weren’t too worried. Then on June 9th, we emailed her requesting to book her for our wedding and our engagement photo shoot. A week passed with no response. So I sent a follow up email. I finally got a reply on the 23rd saying it’s been a wild season and she’ll get a contract/invoice sent over sometime this week. And that she’ll reach out closer to our wedding date to schedule a call or meeting to discuss details and schedule. She also provided her phone number for faster communication. I texted her so she’d have my phone number and to let her know I got her email and inquired about scheduling our engagement photo shoot. It’s been over 24 hours with no response. Due to all the time passing our window to get our engagement photos done for our save the dates is getting smaller and smaller. Is such delayed communication common or am I being an overly nervous bride to be?

During busy seasons, I think delayed communication can be common, so I would give her some grace for that, but I would also be nervous about slow replies or no responses. How are her reviews online?

Her online reviews are great, haven’t seen a semi bad or bad review on her or her business.

Personally I wouldn't care how busy the photographer is because as a business trying to keep you happy and as a client they shouldn't be taking this long to respond. My husband is a home inspector and I work from home as his office person with two children (1 & 3 years old) and even though I'm busy with them I still have to answer my clients otherwise they will go find someone else. I personally would look for a different photographer.

It doesn’t take long to answer someone’s question or to forward an already made contract. If you haven’t gotten/signed a contract, you’re still a potential client to them- not definite (they should be working to win you over). I would look to the second photographer on the list, reach out, and if they get their info and contract out fast, that may be the way to go. You don’t want to stress about struggling to contact a vendor or ensuring that they hold up their end when the big day comes.

Have you heard back from her yet about a contract or about your engagement shoot? If not, I would move on to someone else who has better communication. This issue will likely not resolve itself once you're locked in to a contract, and you might struggle with getting her to respond to questions before your wedding day, which would add stress for you.
