My fiancé and I just got engaged about a week ago, and decided on August 3, 2019 for our date. Most people take a year to plan their wedding, whereas ours is in 7 months. I’m freaking out a little bit! Help!

    Congratulations on your engagement!

My fiancé and I want a country wedding, so a hotel is not an option as a venue. I am also a junior in college, so we are being very cautious about how we budget our wedding. We are aware that a backyard wedding costs a lot, but we don’t want anything over the top. We like simple. Thank you so much for your advice!

What people are trying to tell you is that even very simple chairs, linens, dance floor, tables will add up to a lot more than you think they will. We upgraded our chairs at our venue for $2.50 pp and that is significantly cheaper than it would have been for using an outside rental company. You'll also need tents, which run $1,000+, in case it is too hot or raining (my wedding was in August and it was SO hot). You'll also need portable air conditioners since you're getting married in August. This isn't about being over the top, its about being a good host to your guests. It will likely run you a lot higher cost-wise than going to a venue that will allow you to bring in your own caterer/alcohol.

We booked our venue January 3rd for an August 3rd 2019 wedding. As long as you find a venue and you two generally agree on the details of other things, you can do it! I suggest buying the knot’s book with the to do list.
it even has a quicker to do list for a speedier engagement

You have two of the most time sensitive things done already, so no need to stress! What will you do for catering? Are you hiring a photographer?

We are looking into doing a BBQ from a local place in our town. And yes, we will be hiring a photographer.

To everyone who commented, me and the guy I was supposed to get married to broke up a few days after these comments about feeling nervous were made.

I started dating my now fiancé in early March, and we have planned a wedding for 2 years out. Thank you to everyone who provided insight, I’m sure I won’t be too much of a mess now that we’ve got time to plan this one.
