Negril has better beaches They have seven mile beach. Its my favorite island I have been there 3 times

Negril twice and stayed in Montego once. Montego bay is good also you can take a day to go to Negril then a day to go to Ocho Rios Dunn's River falls which is also nice

Honestly, I think it really depends on where you intend to stay. All the beaches in Montego Bay are manmade - There are a bit of rocks when you walk from your beach chair into the water- Once you get in the water, it's fine, but you do have to walk over some stones to get in. They don't hurt but I'd rather not have to worry about it. That being said, if you stay at the Iberostar hotels in Montego Bay, they rake the sand daily to make sure the rocks are as few and far between as you can get.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Iberostar chain for Montego Bay. We are doing our honeymoon in Couples Swept Away in Negril but that won't be for a few months so I can't speak to that hotel. ahh, I just LOVE Jamaica!

I just went to Montego Bay it is beautiful but I heard the nicer beaches are in Negril. I would defintely do a day trip to either or depending where you decide to stay.

@Miss Mallory - I have stayed at that Ibero Star!! I don't remember rocks on the beach, but man ... it was beautiful and we had a BLAST

For me, the bonus of Montego Bay is that there is an airport that you can fly right into and out of - a 20 minute drive to the Ibero Star if I remember correctly. For Negril, you still fly into Montego Bay but it's like a 2 hour drive I think, but I have heard that the beaches are second to none

ETA: Actually I am confusing Negril with Ocho Rios. Ocho Rios supposedly has the best beaches but is a bit farther. my apologies for the confusion

I love Negril - It is much calmer of a place and the beaches are gorgeous! I love the Samsara. They are linked with Legends so you can visit both places - Cliff and beach resort and Owayne - the bartender at Samsara is a blast! They are small resorts so the service is much more personal.

The Iberostar is beautiful and they have an adults only hotel there if you want to really relax (That's where my FH and I stayed last year for vacation) It's an awesome commute, maybe 25 minutes from the airport

You should DEFINITELY check TripAdvisor out - I LOVE that website as most people are brutally honest about their hotel stays so look at some resorts on there and decide! Good luck!

    Please check out Trip Advisor.

I'm an Ocho Rios girl honestly - I think you get the best of both worlds of Montego Bay & Negril.

I went to Negril last year as wasn't impressed, more so the resort Club Hotel Riu Negril.....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - absolutely awful, old, awful and just more awful!

Shaw Park Beach & Hotel is very nice - cozy and personable. The Royal Decameron Club Caribbean is also a great place to stay in Runaway Bay, Jamaica.

I've been to 2 resorts in Jamaica and both were gorgeous.

The first was in Montego Bay. It was Secrets St. James. Resort was beautiful. You had the mountains to one end and open water to the other. The beaches were man made and fairly small but the water was very clear. Food was delicious and they had a great outdoor piano bar at night. Rooms were very modern

The second was Sandals Whitehouse. Its about 90 minutes from the Montego Bay airport and is the only resort in that area with nature preserve on both side. Gorgeous beaches to walk with different wildlife along the way. Food wasn't as good but still good and overall a beautiful resort.

    Good luck!

Whitehouse was beautiful. I actually got engaged there! (that's where my picture is from)

We always do adults only all inclusive but this was our first Sandals.

The ride to Sandals is a bit long. We had actually booked a private helicopter transfer from the airport but when we got there it was cancelled due to weather so we had to do the drive. Although its long and windy, it was cool to see all of Jamaica (from rich to poor to country to city..you saw it all)

Once we got there, the resort was beautiful. The rooms were not as modern/updated as the Secrets or Excellence properties, but they had everything you could possibly need and were clean and nice. The beach & ocean are beautiful and pretty much every room has an ocean view. The water is clear and you can walk down the beach to explore. The restaurants were good (favorites were Asian & French). The staff is what makes the resort though...they are so awesome!

    Attached are some pics

Also if you have time to do an excursion, we did the catamaran cruise to the pelican bar. The boat leaves right from the resort and the bar is so cool. Made out of all driftwood in the middle of the ocean
