Negotiating with Resorts?

Angela, on January 23, 2019 at 4:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm wondering if anyone has planned a destination wedding at an all inclusive resort and was able to negotiate the pricing or what is included in the packages? I'm very curious to know if it's possible and if it's been done! Thank you!

I haven't heard of negotiating with venues, but it doesn't hurt to ask. For our venue, they book out so far in advance at their normal rates so they don't have to offer discounts or special incentives.

Not sure about "all inclusive" resorts but try! I had to dig to get the info but we saved more than 50% off (site fees & hotel rooms) by having our wedding off-season, on a weekday night. It took a month or so of negotiating and me changing my vision but totally worth it.

The might be willing to....I'm not sure about resorts. My hotel venue was able to knock some of the price off by switching to beer/wine/soda bar instead of a full bar.

Ah I see! Yes, I'm not sure if the resorts are unwilling to negotiate because they get plenty of business at their advertised rates haha.

I've tried asking several times about whether they have any more specials or promos but they didn't extend anything. Did you ask more directly to say you had a certain $ and if they can cut the cost some where?

Oh that's good! Did you ask them in a general way on ways to cut down costs and they suggested this? Or did you ask specifically how much you can save if you switch to beer/wine/soda only?

We asked if it would be any cheaper to cut the liquor out of it and she ran the numbers for us.
I was tempted to ask how much it would be to cut the centerpieces too cuz we didnt care too much about them. But decided if they're included....why not!

Hmm... I just told them what they gave me was beyond my budget. Then I asked directly:

    1) What/when are your off-season rates?

    2) What are your weekday rates?

    3) What are your brunch rates?

I'm sure it varies by location, but venues often charge the most for a Saturday night, in-season. I also discovered several venues had an inclusive "small wedding/elopement" package which for less than 20 guests included the things they probably gave you like ceremony, officiant, photographer, bouquet, champagne toast, and on-site photo session for 1 hour and then we could eat in their resort's restaurant on our own.
