Negotiating price with dj

Leigh, on June 2, 2019 at 2:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Our dj gave us his fee but said he was willing to negotiate. I’d like to ask for $200 less, but don’t want to be insulting. If you’ve had a dj/vendor offer to negotiate how have you handled it?

Just ask directly & nicely for a discount. Saying something like: we really love your work but this is slightly above our budget, is there any way that you could come down in price a little? Things that always help are offering cash payments or full amount in advance or if your wedding is not on Saturday.
We’ve got a discount from every single vendor so far, just by asking nicely & directly. There is nothing insulting about asking. The worst that can happen is they say no 🤷🏻‍♀️

We got a family discount with our dj ONLY because he knows my family and has dj every wedding in our family basically.

Yeah, he’s specifically said he’ll give us a discount and asked how much we’re willing to pay.

There are basically 2 choices. Either give him the price you are hoping to pay or, if you think he will try to negotiate further, give a lower offer.

What is his normal price? And I would ask him what is the discount?

I see all red flags girl. I would go with someone who will give you a set price n tell you what they're discounts are rather than play this game of "how much you willing to pay"...

I would be honest with him with what you were thinking. The worst he can say is he can’t accomdate that price. We had a great conversation with our DJ where we told him that we really wanted to hire him, but couldn’t afford the package we were looking at. He ended up offering this deal to us: if we paid the full amount up front, he would upgrade us to the next package for free plus throw in some freebies! We were able to afford the middle package, but wanted the next one up, so this worked perfectly for us!
