Need some dress advice. Kind of panicked

Tanya, on August 9, 2019 at 4:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I just found out I’m pregnant. I’m about 12 weeks away from the wedding. There’s no way we can bump up the date due to the availability of the venue that’s already paid for. Also it’s a destination wedding so everyone has already booked tickets and hotels and stuff. My only concern regarding the wedding with this new exciting news is my dress. It’s a very form fitting dress. By the time the wedding gets here I’ll be 16 weeks. Should I just take a gamble and wear the dress knowing there may be a little bump or should I get another dress. This will be my first pregnancy so I don’t know when I’ll really start to show. This was planned so I’m excited, it just happened sooner then expected. I thought it would take a little longer because of my age and health concerns I’ve had in the past. Thanks for your input and please be nice about the comments, I’m literally ready to cry at everything because of all the hormones lol.

Congratulations on the baby! I hate to say this, but you will probably need a new dress. Google 16 weeks pregnant and look at the images. Do you have room to let your dress out?

Thanks! There is some room. I bought the dress a year ago and I’ve lost some weight since. I haven’t tried the dress on since I lost weight so there maybe some room. I was thinking I’d go try it on and see what the lady that owns the shop thinks. I’m sure she’s dealt with this before.

How exciting!! Maybe you could find an alternative dress as a "just in case". If you arent really showing and your current dress still works, then I would wear it.. But having a backup could prevent the stress.. maybe an A-Line? Congrats!!

Thanks!!! A backup dress is a great idea!! I do love my original dress , but I don’t know if it’ll fit now and I’d hate to feel uncomfortable on that day.

Congratulations! I would definitely look for a backup dress especially since you said the dress is form fitting. I went about 1 month before my wedding to a bridal salon to look for an after party dress and left with a different wedding dress because I completely fell in love with it. The dress was only like $250 which was even better and my original dress was shortened and I wore it to the after party. The reason I am telling you this is because things can be done in a short time frame even though it isn't ideal. Amazon actually has some really pretty dresses that aren't all that expensive.

Congrats! I’ve never been pregnant but all my friends that have been started to get a tiny bump around 16 weeks or a little after. None of them were showing dramatically then and it just looked like they had a large meal so it’s up to you on if you want to get another dress maybe as a backup.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same thing. I’m sure I’ll have a little bump. Maybe people will think I just ate a lot lol. I’ll probably get a back up just in case.

    Congratulations! That's so exciting!
16 weeks is very early, it's when the little bump appears. I would ask the seamstress to see about letting it out, maybe thinking about a corset back to give you more room.
My mum was about that far when she got married and the dress was tight but she got in it, it's been done before. Grab a back up dress just incase but a good seamstress will know a few tricks as they've seen it before.

First off, CONGRATS!. Definitely a blessing. Second, I agree to look for a back up dress to be on the safe side. Also, with your original dress, you can always wear it for when you do a vow renewal ceremony.

Aww! Are you okay with people seeing the bump and knowing about your pregnancy? Then I think, go for it!! I would love to see a bride with a little baby bump Smiley smile It warms my heart just thinking about it. I think that you should check with your seamstress to see if there is anything that can be done to give you room before getting another dress. Whatever you decide, it'll be great!

Congratulations!!! In my opinion, a new baby is always good news!!

As for your dress, it's really hard to say if/how it will fit because every woman's body is different. At 16 weeks, you will most likely have a little bump, but not huge. If your dress is really form fitting, you may want to get something in a different style, like with an empire waist, or an A-line. Also, a lot of women (myself included) gain a lot of weight in other areas of their body during pregnancy. Like your hips will start to widen, breasts get bigger, and I know when I was pregnant, my whole face got fuller and rounder. So it may not be just the tummy portion of the dress you need to worry about. Just to be safe, you may want to start looking at other styles, see what's out there, and what you can get off the rack, or on a super rush.

    Good luck Mama!!

You’re so right about weight in other areas. I didn’t really take that into consideration. I’ve had friends gain weight in hips and face first before a baby bump even showed. Thanks! I’m starting to think my dress might be a bad option. Maybe an A line would work better just in case.

It really depends on your body shape and if you’ve had kids already. Usually you show quicker after the first child. If you’re tall you usually have a little more leeway. For my first I got pregnant in Beginning of June and no one noticed that I was pregnant until after Halloween. Even my second pregnancy I didn’t look pregnant until 18-20 weeks and for my 3rd I looked pregnant at 16-18 weeks but could pass it off as just having gained weight.

My sister is super fit. Ripped abs and she is currently due in November and just started to look pregnant in the middle of July but she went from no bump at all to suddenly super pregnant over night.

First off, congrats!! Secondly, everyone starts showing at a different time. My first pregnancy, I didn’t start to show til about 12 weeks along. By 16 weeks, it was pretty noticeable. I would try on the dress and see how much room you have in the belly and bust (your boobs will get larger too). Then I would call and speak to a seamstress and see what her suggestions are. Depending on what she says, you may want to look for a backup dress, just in case.

Exciting times for your growing family! I would try on the dress again to see if you have room to grow and also ask your seamstress their opinion. But if you feel like it won’t fit then I would go ahead and get a less fitting dress.

Congratulations on your baby! I didn't really start to show until I hit 20 weeks when I had my child, but every person is different so there's no telling what your body will look like. A backup dress would likely be a good idea, there would be nothing worse than getting to your wedding day in your chosen location and trying to put the dress on and having it not fit, and having no other option.
