Need MC!

Donya, on January 9, 2017 at 4:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hello Ladies and Gents. We are in need of a MC to host the reception. We thought about asking a family member or friends(still thinking about it) but didn't want people to come and have a "responsibility." We looked into a few companies; however they only do packages, which would include: a DJ, MC, lighting and special effects. Unfortunately, we already a very close friend of ours providing the music and don't really need lights...just need a MC. Any suggestions in Westchester area?

Hire a DJ. You'll thank us, we swear.

The DJ can also be the MC.

Cancel your friend DJ so they can enjoy your wedding and hire a professional to DJ and MC

Don't let your friends do music. Get a pro DJ who can MC the night too.

Try EMG Entertainment, Premier Entertainment, A Starry Night, and PAE entertainment. I've worked with all of them and they are all great.

I *highly* doubt you would be able to find someone that will just MC. Let your friend be a guest rather than work as a DJ during your wedding and hire a DJ that will play great music AND MC. I didn't want any special lighting or special effects, so those aren't included in my price or package. Talk to those vendors and see what your options are.

My friend is a professional DJ and offered to do it. Should I still reconsider?

I think you should still reconsider. Even though he's professional, it's kind of strange he won't MC too, especially if he's a good friend. And I'd want all of our guests to enjoy themselves at our wedding and not be stuck behind a table all night

I second Celia's recommendation of EMG. They DJed my wedding and were awesome.

I agree that your DJ should MC. If your friend is a professional and doesn't MC he may. It have wedding experience which I would want.

Our Christmas party at work had a DJ who was a professional. He didn't do weddings and honestly, he had difficulty getting people on the dance floor and the flow of the night was odd.

You're DJ sets the tone so you really want to go with someone with experience.

@Donya - my FH's BFF is a professional DJ and offered to DJ our wedding for free (he lives in the Bronx, we're in Queens). After joining this site, and realizing what could go wrong with hiring a friendor, we decided not to hire him.

I researched and met with a couple of DJs in my area, and ultimately hired DJ Spynfo. Ironically he lives in the Bronx as well, but DJs all over NYC. He is the DJ AND the MC - I've seen his videos and he is amazing, not to mention, super affordable.

Some of the other DJ entertainment companies I looked into were $3k and up.

If he's a pro DJ, why isn't he able to offer MC services?

If your friend working as the DJ, he won't be able to enjoy the wedding of a good friend. I know he offered, but if you want your friend to enjoy your wedding, tell him you actually wanted him to attend as a guest.

Donya, for the same exact reason you are hesitant about asking a friend to be your MC is the reason you shouldn't let your friend DJ. I'm sure he offered to be nice, but you should politely decline. You want him to be a guest at the wedding. Not working it.

True; if he's a pro, he should either BE or have an MC.
