Need Ideas On Making Extra Money For The Wedding! (:

Hey everyone! So, here's my little story: My fiancé and I have been together for over 8 years, he was my high school sweetheart. I was 16 and he was 18, we had talked about marrying each other for years but he wanted to wait until he could do more for me. He popped the question on our 7 year anniversary and fast forward to the present, we’re finally getting married!! Smiley laugh I’ve dreamt about this day for as long as I can remember. The only issue is, we don’t have enough funds for our dream wedding. Smiley sad I only need $5,000 and I can make that work. We’ll have saved up a little over $2,000 and my parents have both helped with my dress and venue. I only need $1,000 now. Part of the issue that has also arose is the bridal shop took my measurements with a padded bra therefore my bust needs taken in which has added more to the cost of our budget. I’ve saved a good chunk of money already by choosing certain things, but it sadly still isn’t enough.

What we've done so far is: My fiancé is in 2 bands so we have all of the equipment to be our own DJ. His family are phenomenal cooks and they’ve offered to cater our wedding for cheap. A relative of his is also gifting our cake to us. I’ve saved about $3,500 so far with just that. I opted for faux flowers instead of real ones so that also saves another $2,000 approximately. We are making our own centerpieces with the help of my aunt who did her own wedding. Our ceremony and reception are in the same location and that of course helped a lot as well. And my grandfather is going to marry us since he is a pastor. I don’t need an average American cost wedding of $31,000 wedding to be happy.. I’m only asking for $1,000 and with what we have now, it will be perfect. I can’t wait to marry the man God handmade for me. I want to make him proud on the big day.

Any help is greatly appreciated and will get us closer to our goal of my dream wedding. Smiley smile Does anyone have any ideas on ways I can make money easily other than my job? I'm quite crafty but I'm not really sure what people are into and what they'd wanna buy. They don't offer much overtime in my position and I can't get a second job, I don't have the time for that otherwise my house would be a disaster and nothing would ever get done!! Lol

When I was saving up for my wedding I took on a side job and did some freelancing work off a site called upwork, it's the type of freelancing work that's virtual that way you're not going somewhere. Also don't be afraid to borrow things from people so that you don't need to buy them yourself.

Pet sitting or baby sitting on the weekends? Selling random things around the house? We used the app "Acorns" for our honeymoon. It is an investment app so you have the chance to lose money but I invested conservatively and earned about $100 extra dollars over the course of a year. My husband invested more risky and made a few thousand dollars (but he invested a lot more than me).

Aside from a traditional second job at a restaurant a couple hours a week or so, I would post on Facebook and see if anyone has any older relatives that might need help with some cleaning around the house or yard work. My FH just bought a power washer and thought about posting in our neighborhood Facebook chat to see if anyone wants him to do their driveway/porches for a relatively low cost.

Aside from that, that's less than $150 a month which I think is very doable. Even if you don't have extra funds coming in, it could be as simple as not eating out as often as usual skipping date nights out and having them at home, or cutting down on the "extras" when grocery shopping (snack foods, name brand stuff). I think you could get that $150 pretty easily without another job.

Well we never eat out, food is limited to one meal 3 times a day, we don't snack (all due to being healthy and trying to get fit for the wedding). I wish we had more date nights than we do, probably one every 2 months or so. But thanks for the info

Pet sitting and baby sitting sounds like a good idea. Just gotta find people that need a sitter. I'm not interested in the investing money because I've seen people lose a lot, but thanks for the suggestion!

It's not really "investing" like real investing. It's just a money saving app. It rounds up your purchases to the nearest dollar and saves that money for you. I just found it a super easy way to invest like less than $5 a month then have a nice amount by the time our wedding came around. We used a Southwest Airlines credit card for a lot of our wedding and the points we used to fly free for our honeymoon, we didn't accumulate debt because we paid it off immediately though.

I have always had good luck signing up with local catering companies as a catering server when I needed extra money. It's much more flexible and pays better than a retail or food service part time job. Sure, working two jobs long term isn't fun. But when it's necessary, it's worth it. And you can quit when you have finished paying for the wedding.

I know you said you didn't have a lot of free time. But here's what my niece is doing to save extra for her wedding: she's driving for Door Dash. It's a take-out delivery service. Someone orders food from a restaurant using Door Dash to have it delivered. You get the order, go to the restaurant, pick up the food, and deliver it to the customer. You get paid a flat rate for each restaurant, and you can earn tips from the customer too! My niece only can do it a couple nights per week because of her schedule. But she's already building a nice little nest egg from it, since everything she earns goes straight into the wedding fund.

A similar option is to drive for Uber or Lyft. You could pick up some airport runs on the weekends (I'm told those pay the best), and bank all that money.

Do you type? Sometimes doctors and lawyers are looking for typists. They have a lot of paperwork that needs typing, and don't always have a large staff to handle it. Sometimes it's less expensive for the professional to hire that work out to an independent contractor. A lot of those opportunities you can actually work from home, on your own computer. Check the job boards of your local courthouses for these kinds of jobs.

I didn't have time for a second job because I travel for work a lot and my schedule isn't consistent enough.

We sold a lot of extra furniture on Facebook Marketplace. We had an entire bedroom suit in our guest room that we weren't using. My husband sold tools he didn't need. We sold everything in the garage that was just collecting dust like book shelves and a table/chairs. That alone got us a few hundred dollars.

Idk what bank you use (but a lot of banks have this) we have bank of america and we were able to enroll in the "keep the change" program. Every time we made a purchase with our debit cards, the bank rounded it up to the nearest dollar and put that extra change into savings. You are saving without noticing a huge difference. It adds up fast and was an easy way to build up more money.

For crafting, the holidays are coming up, so you could make a lot of cool things to sell. Maybe wreaths? Or ornaments? I'd make one or two and post about them to see if there is an interest before you spend a ton of money on supplies and it doesn't work out. But this is a prime time of year for crafters to make some cash.

You could donate plasma. When my friend lost her job she had to figure out how to pay her car payment and she donated plasma
