Need help wording the time on my invitations ...

Cecilia, on December 28, 2011 at 4:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I am in need of you Ladies WW Wisdom... I am currently working on our invitations and I am literally stuck for the wording of our start time. Our weding starts at 5pm, but on the invitations I need to put 4:30. I would like the time to be written out in all caps

(ie. FIVE O' CLOCK IN THE EVENING)

How do I do this? (THIRTY MINUTES AFTER FOUR O'CLOCK IN THE EVENING) seems a bit odd/long ... don't you think?

I surely don't want our guest to be there an hour before so 30 minutes should be enough time to settle in their seats.

Any suggestions?

Ours was a formal wedding and we had "Half after six o'clock in the evening", wonder if yours would be "Half after four o'clock in the afternoon"? Again, it's very formal wording...if you are having a laid back ceremony/reception you might consider something else.

Thanks Ladies, it is a formal wedding and I wasn't sure how to google it. I like the sound of the half past ... can't believe my brain is sooo fried that I didn't think of that! On the invite it will all be centered in lower caps:
SUNDAY, THE TWENTY FIFTH OF MARCH
HALF AFTER FOUR O"CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON
    VENUE NAME
    ADDRESS
    STATE, CITY

    How does that sound?

While I understand you want people to be there early, some random person is going to post on WW how they were told to be there by 4:30 and the wedding didn't start until 5pm.

I would be peeved. Because I will show up at 4ish, thinking I have to wait 30 minutes, not an hour.

I would suggest "four-thirty" or "half past four in the afternoon/evening."

*Hayley C. - That's what I thought and I didn't realize the year was not listed until Karla H. comment (It was that way on the template I downloaded from DIY kit) but I have corrected it. Thanks =)

*Goskell - Thanks for the confirmation, I choose the wording "half past four in the afternoon"

Megan R. - Our wedding must start promptly at 5pm ... there is only 30 mins.

This will be an outdoor wedding and it is on the same grounds as the reception. The musicians will begin plaing music at 4:30pm and at that time the Users will be available with the programs and assist with seating.

4:30pm is the best that can be done since all the guest must get their vehicle valet parked & then (golf) carted to the ceromony grounds. (it is not in walking distance unless they want to be breathless & sweat there pretty little do's out =)

On our website & within the invite, I will have the specifics on the ceremony starting promptly @ 5 (as I will be getting ready there) and that is why it is suggested to appear at 4:30. I will have no control over any & everyone showing up exactly with in the same time frames & waiting to be taken over ... either way there is a possible wait. I would think to arrive a little before 4:30 gives you your choice of what you would consider BEST seating =)
