Need help I’m lost

Breanna, on February 24, 2020 at 4:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
So one of my bridesmaids house caught on fire with her 300 dollar bridesmaid dress in it.. I already paid for it the first time because she couldn’t afford it and I cannot afford it the second time plus her makeup which I was paying for the bridal party as my gift to them what do I do? I’m trying to be sympathetic of her situation because it’s horrible but the wedding is less then 4 mo the away what the heck do I do

That’s horrible! I’m sure she’ll get an insurance check though, that should help cover the cost of the dress? Though not sure that’ll be her priority right now.

Does she have renters/homeowners insurance? She might see if it will cover the loss. Depending on the timing of your wedding, she might not have the money in time though.

Is everyone wearing the same dress? Can you find a similar dress for a cheaper price? I honestly doubt that your wedding is the first thing on her mind right now. I would give her time for things to settle down and then have a conversation with her to see if she still wants to participate.

I also agree with the other posters that your wedding is probably the last thing on her mind. Fires are extremely traumatic and it’s possible she might need to back out entirely. If that happens, be supportive and understanding.

Glad she’s alright. As other pp mentioned her insurance could handle it but if not then I would just figure out if you can find the same dress used

How many bridesmaids do you have? Could you ask other maids/family members or friends to pitch in?

I would try to find a way to make it work where you can buy her a new dress, even if it’s not the exact same one or the same amount. Her house caught fire - the last thing she’s thinking about is your wedding. Try to be understanding and take care of that part yourself, that will make the experience as a whole go more smoothly.

I agree with Caytlyn. You need to be there for her as a friend first, bride second.

Her insurance should reimburse her for the dress.

Her house burned down and all you can think of is her dress. Please be a little more sympathetic to what she is going through. I'm sure the last thing on her mind is your wedding.

As the PPS have said, make sure that you are being there for her as a friend. Try not to talk to her about the wedding right now, I'm sure there is a lot going on in her life.

After an appropriate amount of time, you can ask if your families or your BM can help pitch in for the cost. You can also try to find something that looks similar for a cheaper price.

My sister was in a similar situation, the insurance money most likely won't be back in time to get the bridesmaid dress. Maybe see if the other bridesmaids would help chip in, including the bridesmaid herself, maybe even the groomsmen and between everyone, knowing her horrible situation, you can split the price. If it's too much to ask, maybe it is better for her to step down.
