Need help finding shoes for my dress

Winnie, on December 18, 2019 at 2:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

As the title says, I need some help.

Here is a link to my dress: https://www.thebridalgallery.com/watters/bridal-fall-2019/tori

I'm looking for low heels (preferably not higher than 2 inches) because I don't want to be taller than the groom. I've considered flats but I was hoping to have a little bit of teeny heels...

Also, for context, we will be eloping up on the mountains. So technically it would be more practical to wear boots or something. But I was hoping to be in some girly shoes for photos and in case they peak out from underneath my dress.

Budget wise: hoping for no more than CAD$500...

Anyways, any sort of advice would help. Such as open toed or closed toed, type of fabric/color that would go with this dress style. Thank you in advance!!

I think some nude block heels would look nice. I got some from David’s bridal for $30 - they’re comfortable and I feel like I’ll wear them again after the wedding.

I’m having and outdoor wedding, which is another reason I chose block heels. I don’t want to be sinking into the grass. Lol

If you have heels of any kind, make it a block heel or a wedge. Skinny heels and outdoor settings don't mix well.

My wedding is outdoors and my dress was pre-owned and already hemmed to a length that limits me to short heels, so I know this drill. I'd recommend cute booties, block heels, or a short wedge, no more than 2 1/2 inches for easy walking. I found that 2-2 1/2 heel heights are quite common, so you should be able to find a number of options, but there are a limited number of shorter heels (like 1-1 1/2 inches) out there.

Something with a covered toe that protects your feet would be better for hiking, so pumps or a bootie, but if you prefer the look of sandals you could switch into them for photos. I just think your feet will probably get dirty in sandals and you run the risk of having a stick stab your toe or something, which could get ugly. You should also go with a material and color that won't show dirt as much - I'd go with a nude or blush as opposed to white, ivory, or blue. Leather, nubuck, or faux leather will probably be the most durable material. I would think satin or velvet would get trashed really easily. I'd also be wary of super blinged out designs with big crystals - they're more likely to rip off on a trail than in a hotel ballroom.

You could go two ways with your thoughts on budget - get cheap shoes knowing they'll likely get ruined, or invest in really good, really comfortable shoes that you will be able to hike in without too much discomfort. I do think if you are hiking any distance comfort needs to be a least some of your priority (for safety as much as sanity), so I'd spend a little more on a well made shoe with padding by a reliable brand, or at the very least consider getting some inserts for cushion so that you can hike without pain.

For short block heel sandals, check out Aldo's Gladoniel (if you want a little bling) or Steve Madden's Irenee. Or just put a few of your criteria in a Google or Poshmark search and get to shopping!

Also, if you like the idea of a little glam but aren't finding something you like, look into shoe clips. There are a ton of cute ones on Etsy. With shoe clips you can wear a more basic shoe for hiking and then just add a touch of elegance before you take the photos, so you don't have to worry about rhinestones falling off, appliques getting dirty, etc. Plus, you can then buy a plainer shoe design more focused on comfort that is versatile enough to wear for other occasions but still have it look "bridal" for your wedding without spending a lot on one-time-use wedding shoes.

I bought my shoes online. There are many great online retailers and you can tier it down to bridal shoes. I like Zappos and .6pm the best but bought mine from Dillard’s website. I love the badgley mischka shoes, that is what I ended up with. Originally over $200 but got for $75. Read, read, read reviews. I order almost everything online. So much easier, cheaper and wider array of choices
