Need a catholic church that does Saturday morning wedding ceremonies, please help!

Vanessa, on August 29, 2016 at 12:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hello Brides!

I'm looking for a Catholic church in Nassau/Western Suffolk that will do a Saturday morning wedding ceremony (no mass). Our reception is at 1:00 so we would need a 10:30 or 11am wedding ceremony. The church that I belong to and other neighboring churches only do funerals on Saturday mornings and do not have any weddings before noon.

I've gone so far as to call the Diocese of RVC and they told me I would have to call individual churches.

Has anyone had a catholic ceremony on a Saturday morning and could recommend a church? Thank you so much!

Even if someone can recommend a church, that doesn't mean they'll be available on your date. Start calling around even further out and just get a feel for who might be available. Why wouldn't noon at your church work though? The Rite with no Mass is probably less than a half hour, which would leave a half hour to get to wherever your reception venue is. Perfect for a lunch reception!

Do you have a home parish? Can that priest help you out? It may be difficult to get married in a different parish. You will definitely have to call the churches yourself and speak to whomever coordinates the marriages. I suggest Google.

If you're Catholic and getting married in the church, you usually have a wedding mass (if your FH'S Catholic also). And to be married in another church, you need your priest's permission. If I were you, I would talk to my priest. Good luck!

It seems that most churches start wedding ceremonies at noon (or at least the one's that I've called). They have told me that the ceremony is about 35-45 minutes. Our venue is about 40 minutes from the church. Therefore, we likely wouldn't get there until 1:30 (when the event starts at 1) I guess what I could also consider is a church that is closer to the venue and then noon would be fine. However, I really wanted to get married in the church where I grew up. Thanks for your help Rebecca

Can I ask why you booked your reception venue before your ceremony? You might have to change your reception if you can't find a church to do this.

My parish would not accommodate anything before noon. They really weren't very helpful even though I expressed my disappointment.

I guess it does depend on how long the homily will be too, so I would go by your church's estimate. Could you just move your reception start time to 1:30 with the venue? I imagine you're booked there all afternoon anyway.

We are going to speak to our venue maybe they can push it to 1:30. The venue usually has an afternoon reception and an evening reception (I'm not sure what time the evening one begins). We really wanted a saturday day reception at the Harbor Club. Even if we booked the church first we would then have a reception issue.
