Naturally Wavy Hair

Elizabeth, on October 28, 2021 at 9:43 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
Brides with naturally wavy/curly hair, how did you style It for your wedding or what are you planning to do? I have thin 2b wavy hair that I don’t heat style...at all. I’m an air dry/wash & go kinda gal. I want a half up/down style but I have ZERO volume.

I never see photos of naturally wavy hair on brides, so any ideas or inspiration photos would be appreciated!

Your natural wave is absolutely beautiful! If you are wanting to go with it, but add more volume, I would do clip in extensions for the wedding. They are temporary, won’t damage your hair, and are a lot cheaper than sew Ins.

I have naturally wavy/curly hair (it's more curly lately) and it's very fine. I got extensions put in to add some length and volume and I'm doing a half up half down style. I will say though, my hairstylist requires everyone to blow dry their hair out and not leave it to air dry as it adds a bit of volume and is easier to style. Not sure if all hairstylists do this, but maybe try to blow it out and see where you're at? Clip-in extensions are wonderful if you don't want to have more permanent ones added as those are a lot of maintenance.

Elizabeth, I have naturally wavy and/or curly, extremely fine hair, too. I only air dry my hair. I use this awesome product to give my hair tons of volume. Please try it. My hairstylist is amazed! It's made by Markham ( I have to order via mail) and it's called Glassy Glaze Kurl Shaper Sculpturing Lotion. I put it in after shampooing ( I use all Markham products) and conditioning. Apply liberally. Scrunch hair with fingers to get the waves, curls, going. THEN , clip your hair up in small butterfly clips. There is a learning curve to have your hair fall just so. You'll look like an alien and let your hair air dry. If in a pinch, you can use a bonnet dryer. When I take my hair down it's so curly and bouncy. After styling, I do set it will Paul Mitchell's Freeze and Shine because it doesn't weight down my curls. Hope this is helpful. I live in a high humidity area and this is a Godsend product and way to style my hair. I will be using an extension that is the same shade of strawberry blonde as my hair. Here is my desired style for our Victorian themed wedding.

Thank you!!! It took me a long time to start appreciating my hair and now I worry so much about damaging It! I considered clip in extensions, I will definitely look into them!

I’m very happy with my decision to wear my hair natural... I got it “done” the morning of. My regular stylist washed it, put products in it, put it up in a half up half down. Done! I wouldn’t have been able to do what she did the morning of (I wanted to) but I’m glad I entrusted her because I wouldn’t have had the correct products for the weather )humidity) and she was able to go in with and recurl some of the strands in the back with her finger, etc.

I really like your hair! I’m a fan of going natural on wedding day. Why should we look one way every day of our life and then on our wedding day look completely different?! Best of luck in your decision

Your hair is GORGEOUS!!! It looked beautiful on your wedding day as well! I completely agree with you about looking like yourself on your wedding day. The thought of having someone blow my hair straight just to put waves in it when I already have them just doesn’t feel right! I have quite a while to play with different styles before my wedding, but of course...you know how unpredictable waves/curls are!

Yes, they are very unpredictable!!!!! That’s why I was torn for a while. When I have a blow out, my hair is much easier to manipulate. When I ultimately decided on natural curls, I decided to get it done professionally (because natural hair is so unpredictable)

My natural hair is super similar to yours!

I had two hairstyles thanks to Covid forcing us into two events. For both events I did curl my hair (my waves are temperamental and can be inconsistent depending on weather and other factors) but I probably could have gotten away with my natural wave if I was having a good hair day.

Ugh WW wouldn't let me edit my previous post.

Here are two other comparison photos:

For volume, I'd recommend the following:

    1) Find a dry shampoo you like and apply it to your roots. It will add volume, as well as a little "tackiness" that can help the "updo" part of the half-up, half-down look stay in place.

    2) Consider volumizing hair products. I use NatureLab Tokyo's "Pure Volume" shampoo and conditioner and it helps my hair be less flat. They have a blow out gel that also adds nice volume if applied just to the roots, and I find that works if I heat style as well as if I just let air dry. They also have a texturizing spray in that line, but I don't like it at all because it ends up making my hair very piece-y and stiff vs just nice soft waves.

    3) I also LOVE Herbal Essences Tousling Mousse (hold level 2). It's an inexpensive product but works so well! I apply it when my hair is wet/damp and it adds volume and also helps define my natural waves, but doesn't feel stiff or sticky. If I'm curling my hair, it helps the curls hold, whether I heat style right away or I just let the product air dry in my hair and then actually curl it the day after.

Thank you so much for the tips! Your hair looked gorgeous in both styles! I have been trying dry shampoos here and there and haven’t quite found a favorite, I’ve never been a huge fan of how they make my hair feel. I will look into the shampoo 🙃 I know all about the temperamental part, my hair is super unpredictable too!

And side note: you have fantastic arms
