Natural Wedding Makeup

Holly, on January 1, 2020 at 8:42 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9
Hi Everyone,
While talking to a friend last night, the discussion of wedding planning came up. We got on the topic of wedding hair/makeup. The only make up I typically ever wear is mascara. I explained that my plan was to save money and do my own hair and makeup, since I prefer the natural look anyways. She responded by saying I need to get professional hair and full face of makeup done, that I need to make sure my cheeks are contoured/highlighted, etc. so that my pictures turn out good.
As the comment kind of took me by surprise, I was hoping that I could get some feedback on wedding makeup thoughts/past experiences.

Many brides do their own but an mua could still do your make up with a natural lip. I say it's a special day with nice pics and if you have the budget get it but if not then do your own. It's whatever you want.

I am not paying for a professional for hair and makeup. One of my bridesmaids is in cosmetology school and she's doing my hair and another bridesmaid is helping with makeup but I'm planning on doing it mostly myself. If your photographer is talented your photos will turn out beautiful with or without those pros! I personally think skipping a hairdresser and makeup artist is a great way to save money especially is you want to keep it simple and/or have the skills yourself or a family member or friend to help out!

That’s silly lol. Maybe SHE would prefer that, but doesn’t mean you would. I had my hair done professionally but I did my own makeup. I almost never wear makeup on a daily basis and when I do it’s very minimal. For my wedding I did wear more than usual, but I just did: foundation, concealer, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick. Super natural look too. I think it turned out great in pictures, and I feel like having more makeup would’ve just made me look not like myself, since I generally don’t wear any...Natural Wedding Makeup 1

Do whatever makes you feel most beautiful! I do understand where she is coming from but there is no reason for you to break the bank if you don’t think it’s necessary.

I think it’s really up to you. I ended up getting a mua, I just wanted someone else to take care of it day of. Unfortunately, my girls were taking a while and I was the last one so my makeup was rushed, so I got stressed anyways. And the artist used thicker lashes than from my trial, and I have small eyes so yeah.... it can go either way! Otherwise, I liked having a mua.

I don’t wear a ton of makeup at baseline. I did a makeup trial to see how I felt about being all glammed up (I wasn’t sure how I felt about it initially). Turns out I loved it and had my makeup professionally done for my wedding. I think however you feel comfortable is best though!!! If your gut is saying to go a bit more natural than go for it

I'm very similar to you where the only makeup I ever wear is mascara, eyeliner, and something to fill in my eyebrows a bit. Maybe some lipstick for special occasions. I've NEVER been one to wear a full-face of makeup and the thought of wearing so much on my face for my wedding day made me really uncomfortable. I knew I wouldn't look or feel like myself.

Everything I read said you should have your makeup done professionally or you'll look "washed out" in pictures, but it wasn't what I wanted to do. So I did my own makeup for our engagement pictures (since they were professional photo quality) and I was more than happy with the way they turned out. In my opinion, I don't think I look washed out at all; I look like myself! So I've decided to do my own makeup for the wedding and I'm so happy I am. If you do decide on professional makeup, I've heard that airbrush makeup is a good idea to have coverage and still look natural. Best of luck to you!

You could do a makeup trial, to see how you feel. but its your wedding and you can certainly do your own makeup if that's what you like!

I don't think professional HAMU is required, but it is nice and less stress on the bride for sure. The right artist will be able to make you look as natural as you want while applying powder & makeup so you aren't shiny and the makeup lasts all night.
