Natural birth control

Grace, on April 25, 2019 at 11:41 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 19
Has anyone used the app natural cycles or daysy for birth control/fertility tracking? Did you like it and was it easy to keep up with?

I haven't used either of those specific ones but I've used Eve for like three years now to track my birth control/periods and everything and I really like it. The more you log the more accurate it gets and it's super easy. You just press a button when your period starts and it logs it and it will start to guess when they will come, how many days long, etc. It can also track your ovulation and your chances of getting pregnant each day and such if you're TTC.

Okay I haven’t heard of that one, I’ll look at it! I don’t know too much about the ones I mentioned yet but I know they come with a thermometer and you take your temperature bc it changes with your cycle throughout the month

I don't use an app, but I have taught one of the natural methods (CrMS) for over five years. I have lots of friends that successfully use a variety of natural methods to plan a family, and my husband and I have successfully used CrMS for almost two years to avoid pregnancy. If you plan on using a natural method, I would highly recommend seeking out instruction in your area because an app alone might not be enough. You might be able to find an instructor by using Facebook, there are lots of natural planning groups. The most common methods are Sympto-Thermal, Creighton Model (CrMS) and Marquette. Sympto-Thermal is the most cost-effective if you have a fairly regular cycle, and it works well with lots of different apps.

Good luck! One of the best things about using a natural method is that you and your husband are always communicating about where you are in your cycle and what your intentions are for your family. It fosters great communication that spills over into other areas of your marriage. I love teaching natural methods when people are open to it, it can be really beautiful in a marriage.

I've used Clue for the last few years and love it.

Thank you!! I will look into these methods! I know that the two apps I mentioned are a full service that you pay a yearly or monthly fee for and they include a thermometer so they might be similar to the sympto thermal method you mentioned

I had a girlfriend try it, and she now has an adorable baby! Haha! She said it worked for 8-10 months but then it must have been one day where the app wasn't 100% correct. I use an app in addition to my pill birth control.

I'm just on the pill, it's the easiest one for me! I tried Depo and had really bad results.

Wow! That's good you got off it. I've never had any side effects with the pill so I'm thankful for that. I'll probably get off it in a year or so, when we try for babies!

I used clue and then switched to the fitbit app. Fitbit was a tad more accurate, but clue is pretty great as well. I wouldn't use it as birth control, but definitely for fertility tracking when we start family planning.

Okay! I haven’t heard of clue but another girl mentioned it! The difference I know with the apps that I mentioned is that they’re actually a paid service and come with a thermometer to take your bodies temperature bc it changes throughout the month with your cycle so they’re a little more involved than just a period tracker so I would feel a little better about using them as birth control

Yeah, that sounds like a more reliable way to do birth control. The free apps we mentioned are a great way to predict the range within a few days. Which is why I wouldn't use it as a reliable method to prevent pregnancy as much as identifying menstruation.

You're welcome! If they include a thermometer they are probably similar to Sympto-Thermal. That method generally tracks temperature and cervical mucus (although there is at least one more biomarker).

I literally spend a week being mean to everyone and then a week crying then I’m sorta normal again. I’m making everyone crazy. Plus I have physical side effects that really made me wanna quit the pill.

FH and I have a baby already. He turned 10 months old today. Before that I was single for a number of years and didn’t worry about birth control but I’m not ready for another one just yet. He is a handful. Don’t get fooled by the cute face lol

My FH and I are taking the Natural Family Playing class. I don't use anything now and never have before besides abstinence. Then I thought, well I am getting married soon and birth control was the first thing I thought about because it's what you hear about a lot. Then I looked up what other options there are. I didn't want to go with anything that alters the chemicals in my body or insert something etc. I do think NFP works if you do it right; I also know I probably wouldn't because it seems like a lot of work and charting. It's great information however and I think it will go well with something that doesn't require as much work. So I am going to get a Lady-comp. It's not cheap $455 but you can pay in installments without interest.
