National Park with a church?

Omi Omi, on September 27, 2016 at 11:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hi beautiful peoples!

I'm trying to find an awesome national park to get married in/ near so I can give my family a chance to travel and have some adventure. That's kinda the theme of my bae and my life together. Smiley smile

Thing is, there's some less able elders in the family so it needs to be adventurous but not entirely too difficult for hobbling adorable grandparents. Also, I'm catholic and want to get married in a church, but then reception in the park. I'm thinking I need a awesome park close to some major city for accessibility. But maybe not. You might know something better? So! Anyone have any location suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Omi

Ps- if you've had or been to a big park wedding please feel free to share what was great about it, or if there are awful things to avoid Smiley winking

I've been to Yosemite national park.. beautiful!

But I think it would be helpful if you mentioned where you would want (at least a state) to have it at.

If you don't have a state set in mind, look for a national park in a state where wedding are usually lower, if budget is your concern (maybe be the guests)

Gatlinburg, TN has Cades Cove. There are some old churches scattered throughout but I don't think they would allow you to use them for a wedding. They have a lot of chapels in the area though.

ETA: Cades Cove might just be a state park. Not sure on that.

We want a park close enough to a major airport. We both used to live in CA and our families are in Chicago, Connecticut and Florida. So we were thinking east of the Rockies, but haven't narrowed it much more than that yet. He proposed on an island in Maine #swoon

And yes budget is def a big deal for us! LOL. We went to his cousins wedding last year where money was no object and wow, that was wild. Our style is a little more simple, modest, and affordable fun.

Grand Teton National Park has the Chapel of Transfiguration. The background of the park is the most beautiful place ever as seen in my avatar. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapel_of_the_Transfiguration

There are a limited number of national parks. I would start by looking them up. No one can make this decision for you. Every park will have things accessible for your grandparents and things they can't do. The Catholic wedding thing will be harder to navigate unless you're not planning on having a Catholic ceremony?

Yosemite has a chapel in it. I know they do a lot of weddings. Also, you can look at Awahnee Hotel to see if they have one on site in Yosemite.
