Names on Save the Dates?

howdoibride, on June 14, 2017 at 2:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Quick etiquette question - do you have to use the bride and groom's full name on the Save the Date card? I'm sure that's traditional but I didn't know if there was some leniency nowadays. For example, if the groom goes by Chris instead of Christopher, is it a big deal to just use Chris Lastname on the STDs, and use full name on the formal invitation later? Or should you always use full names on anything you send out to your guests?

I think on your STDs you can be more casual and just use the name he goes by.

We just used our first names and it was totally fine. I'd definitely use the name he goes by.

We did our first & last names but used the name FH goes by instead of his formal name.

You don't HAVE to use formal names for anything except the marriage license. We aren't because FH actually goes by his middle name, and has his entire life. We didn't see much point in having everyone go "Joseph? Who the hell is Joseph?"

A lot of people these days have legal names that seem like they might be a nickname, ie. Kristie is actually my friend's legal name, not Kristin or Kristina. The only people who would know better is her parents and maybe grandparents.

We actually put our first and last names on our STD, but we didn't really have to - it had our picture on it for goodness sake!

We used last names, but we used the names we go by ("Chris" instead of "Christopher" in your example).

For the invite, we used full formal names.

I dont think we even put names on our STDs now that I think about it. But it had lots of pics of us, so if people dont know us by our faces, then obviously we dont know them well enough to need to worry about them coming, LOL

We used first names only. And for our parents' friends who may not know us, I put "last name & last name wedding" on the back of the envelope

    (For STDs)

STDs are usually casual - So I'd go by the name you use daily
