Names on Invitations

FutureMrsB, on February 14, 2018 at 6:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So I'm writing out names on invitations, "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith & Family." Where do I write, specifically, who is invited? (John Smith, Jane Smith, Tommy Smith, & Lindsey Smith). How do I make it clear who exactly is invited?

What I decided to do was add a line on my rsvp card saying " _ of _ guests will attend". I am writing in the total number of people invited and they can fill out how many are actually coming.

I was thinking of doing that too... here is a dilemma I am facing. What if I am just inviting the parents, and only one of them can come.... and they try to fill in their son/daughter to fill in the 2nd seat? Although I would think that people understand that this isn't okay to do....how do I make it very clear that said son/daughter is NOT invited?

If you have a wedding website you can do it on there and it will be exactly who you specify. My RSVP is private so they have to "find their invitation" by inputting their name

If you're inviting the parents address it to "Mr. And Mrs. Smith". If it's the whole family "the Smith family"

This is the only downside to losing the inner envelope in my opinion! But I’m glad I no longer have to pay for another envelope Smiley smile

This is done by using an inner envelope. Most couples are choosing to forgo this extra expense, though. If that is the case, if you plan to invite the whole family you would do it as you first described, or "The Smith Family." Remember that anyone over the age of 18 living in the same household gets their own invitation.

This is why we did inner envelopes. If you are doing it all on an outer envelope it would be:
    parents names
    children under 18's names
    address

    So:
    Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Miss Jane Smith and Mr. Joe Smith
    or just The Smith Family

This is how we are handling it.

I think “Mr and Mrs Smith and family” makes it clear that the kids are all invited as well, and just “mr and mrs smith” show that it’s the adults only.
