Name Used for Ceremony?

Just had dinner with our minister to go over ceremony and he left this up to me. My formal first name is Catherine (was used on invitation), but everyone knows me as Katie (that was on STD, wedding website, m everything else).

One idea was was to start with Catherine and then switch to Katie at the more personal vows. But part of me just wants to use Katie the whole time (FH has never even called me Catherine). Any suggestions/ideas for someone who has been in similar situation?? Thanks!!

I don’t go by my legal name either. Everybody knows me by my nickname (shorten version of my birth name), and my husband has never called me by my birth name. I used my nickname for invitations and the entire ceremony. It felt inauthentic to use a name no one calls me or knows me by.

We somewhat have that situation. My FH name is Anthony but everyone close calls him AJ. It sounds too weird to call him Anthony. I plan to keep calling him AJ and will call him AJ throughout the ceremony I know he'd hate it anyways. I said do what sounds best to you.

Check with your officiant to see if there’s any legal requirement to use your legal names in the vows. If not, use whatever you prefer!

Your officiant has said you can choose what to be called during the marriage ceremony. It seems your familiar name would be just fine. Also, no one would be seeking out recordings of your wedding ceremony to find out what exactly how you were named in it.
