Name change, w-2s

Felina, on December 14, 2019 at 9:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hey guys, i’m 100% changing my name to my husbands, however i find it a little tricky with upcoming tax season, i always get my w-2In January and file immediately. because were getting married late December i thought id change it after i get my return, does this make sense, will it complicate things if i change it a few weeks before i file? Im not too sure of the logistics or legality of it all. Any help would be wonderful!

I’m 99% sure when filing there’s an option to list any other names you’ve gone by. That’s for times like this.

I got married late November and I’m changing my name in late December. I talked to my HR lady and she said it’s no problem at all for tax season.

I personally don't want to deal with the hassle during tax season this year so I'll be changing my name after I get the tax return. I get married in January.

Your SSN isn’t changing and it’ll link everything together. I wouldn’t stress about it. Do your taxes as usual and work through the name change in parallel or after but don’t stress about syncing them up.
